Q: what is the real price of toyota prius 2011?

A: $23,810 for the base model. $29,080 for fully loaded model with all the bells and whistles

Q: Poll: What do ya think about the new 2011 model of the Toyota Prius (picture included)?
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/04/copy-of-hybrid-x_011_tcm317-551665.jpg

copy and paste if u have to

A: I agree with Pinball_fan. It’s just a concept car. Based on looks only, I guess it’s not all that bad. But with the technology available today, they should be able to do a lot better. It better get 100 miles per gallon because looks sure ain’t gonna sell it. It’s not exactly what I’d call sleek.

Q: TOYOTA PRIUS 2008 OR FORD FIESTA 2011?…………?
for a first car?……why?

Im thinking for a car next year or maybe in 2 or 3 years?………..
newer isnt always better
I also like the camaro or the mustang but still not sure….

A: Neither. Don’t spend $20k+ on your first car, its a waste as chance are, you’ll crash it. Also please, don’t be a spoiled rich girl and drive around in a V6 camaro/mustang. Buy something cheap to learn on, then buy something nicer.

While the prius is better on gas, unless you’re driving it for 300k+ miles, you don’t get the money you spent on it back. They tell you its “Green” or good for the environment, but in all reality the way the nickel for the batteries is mined destroys miles upon miles of land and turns them to nothing, all they want is for you to think they care about the environment.

Q: 2009 Toyota Prius question?
Im looking at a few 2009 Toyota Prius’s that range from having 30,000 to 46,000 miles on them, im wondering if i should be concerned about the mileage on them i know thats not a lot at all, but i dont know how things work with hybrids and if im going to expect problems in the near future with this vehicle? i’m also considering a 2011 Toyota Corolla…

A: “im wondering if i should be concerned about the mileage on them”

I’d be worried about a Prius with any mileage.

If you value your life and your daughter’s life, don’t buy Japanese cars.

-TOYOTA SUCKS

Q: is there a drive car show for 2011 prius?
I saw a ads for a car show for 2011 sienna, will it be anything like that for other toyota cars?

A: There have been events for the Prius in the past. However, traditionally the next year’s Prius doesn’t come out till after the August factory holidays.

Q: How do you get more mpg on a vehicle?
If a Toyota Prius has 51/48 estimated mpg, if you can get more, how do you get more?

(Owner of a brand new 2011 Toyota Prius I bought on Saturday, I only get 43 mpg)

Should I drive it on the highway for better mpg?
So far the car is great. The interior looks good, but the materials are cheap. Its fun to drive, and has good cargo room.
Just forget about Alan. I’m never talking to him again.

A: Your car should get better fuel mileage after the engine is broke in. The fuel mileage is usually worse at first, due to the engine being tight.

Q: When do the 2011 cars start becoming available?
I am specifically thinking about the Toyota Prius. We want to buy a 2010 model and have heard that when the next year’s models come out, the current model goes on sale. Curious how long we have to wait…

A: Traditionally the Prius’ model year starts being manufactured right after the August factory holidays with the first cars arriving in North America about the middle of October. However, this is subject to change so watch for the announcements of the new model. Once it’s announced, the previous year’s model will go on sale. The longer you wait the less it will be but the greater the chance you won’t get the options that you want.

Q: Which car is better? VW Jetta TDI or Toyota Prius?
This will be my first car, I need it to last me a while, which one is more dependable. Both cars will be 2011.

A: It would go with the German technology VW, less complicated and more dependable than the Prius and you don’t have to replace a expensive battery pack every 8 years…plus it’s know fact that diesel motors outlast gasoline ones by double… Plus it gets better overall mpg..

Q: Why should I buy a hybrid car when a non hybrid car gets similar gas mileage?
Current Fuel economy ratings and prices for hybrid cars don’t seem to make sense.

2011 Honda Insight: $18,000 – 40/43 MPG
2011 Honda Civic Hybrid – $24,000 – 40/43 MPG
2011 Toyota Prius – $22,000 – 51/48 MPG

The gas mileage all sounds great until you look at the 2011 Hyundai Elantra which is $17,000 and gets 29/40 MPG. And the 2012 Ford Focus is expected to get similar MPG.

It makes the Insight look like a decent deal but why would anyone pay $7000 more than the Elantra for a Civic Hybrid?

And if the Elantra can get such good fuel economy with a plain old internal combustion engine shouldn’t the hybrid cars have much higher MPG?

Are MPG ratings low for hybrids and people actually get better mileage than the estimates?

A: The EPA ratings are really for comparison and not what you’re supposed to get. The way it is supposed to work is this:

1. You have a car that you want to get rid of. You look up it’s EPA rating and then compare it to the actual MPG you get (from your logbook) and come up with a percentage. That percentage might be greater then or less than 100%.

2. You look up the car you would like to get, then multiply it’s EPA rating by the percentage that was calculated in step one to see what you are likely to get.

Unfortunately, the EPA threw us a curve when they changed the ratings because now there are pre-change and post-change ratings which makes the comparison harder to do. (Especially for those cars that only have “pre” ratings).

Now my 2004 Prius was rated at the time at 51/55/60. I’ve now driven it 115,000 miles and the logbook show an average of 57 mpg. That consists of about 20% vacation trip miles and 80% commuting miles. Since the combined EPA number was 55 for combined that means it’s 103% over the EPA number. Given the accuracy of the measuring devices, anything within 5% is the same as zero, so I’ve received the EPA number. Had it been after the new lowered ratings, then I would have been quite a bit over.

The fly in the ointment here is that most folks don’t keep a logbook and so don’t really know what they get. If they do any kind of mpg tracking at all, it’s usually on a vacation trip when the car gets it’s highway mpg and they assume it’s getting the city EPA mpg as well.

In driving other cars on my commute (like a Corolla) and trying to drive them in an economical fashion, I’ve found they get about half the mpg of the Prius.

In addition, the Prius is a mid-sized car, not a compact. It doesn’t take a lot of engineering skill to make a smaller car get good mpg.

In my opinion 29/40 is a long way from 57 mpg. Remember that unless you’re driving almost all long distance highway trips, if you get EPA mpg you’ll mostly be getting 29.

Q: POLL: Please take this survey?
Choose one of two choices for each number below:

1. Hot chocolate or Coffee

2. Fried Chicken or Spaghetti

3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Charmed

4. Bacon and Eggs or Pancakes and strawberries

5. John F. Kennedy or Ronald Reagan

6. Ice Road Truckers or Antiques Roadshow

7. 2011 Ford Fiesta or 2011 Toyota Prius

8. Fried Shrimp and fried potatoes and cole slaw or 8 ounce Ribeye steak and cheese mashed potatoes

9. All expenses paid week trip to Florida, or all expenses trip to Alaska

10. Corona or Heinekin

A: hot chocolate
spaghetti
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Pancakes and strawberries
JFK
Ice Road Truckers
2011 Ford Fiesta
8 ounce Ribeye steak and cheese mashed potatoes
All expenses paid week trip to Florida
Corona hands down!

Q: Is S400 Hybrid worth it?
My dad wants to get a brand new S-Class, the 2011 version when it comes out. When does come out by the way? Anyways, he has the money to buy a S65 but he also likes to save the environment. He wants a Mercedes-Benz for sure and he came across the S400 Hybrid. He read and watched a lot of reviews on it(the 2010 version) and they all said it wasn’t as nice as S550, and it is a bit sluggish. Reviewers said it feels really slow.

Here is the thing, we live in Michigan where there is 6 months of winter. It usually snows 2-3 times a week. Some people say if the driver is careful, a rear-wheel drive(S400 Hybrid) can handle the snow and some say it’s dangerous. I know 3 people who totaled their rear-wheel drive in the snow, but they were all teenagers. If he gets a S550, it will be a 4MATIC. Also will people think that my dad couldn’t afford a S550 if he gets the S400?

Also part of the reason he wants a S-Class is because well #1 it’s the top selling and most popular luxury car in the world but also because it’s used as state/president cars in Asia and Europe. Which one do they usually use? S550 or S600?

Is getting the S400 worth it? Would you get a S400 or S550 if you could afford it, even though S400 is more environment friendly? But S550 is environment friendly too right? I heard S550 uses recycled material and burns fuel cleaner than Toyota Prius, which is good for the environment.

Thoughts please, thank you (:

A: You’ve been watching Top Gear, huh? Maybe you haven’t. I don’t know. But anyway, if it does snow a lot, you should DEFINITELY get an all-wheel-drive/4MATIC. The best luxury car for an area with a lot of snow is the Range Rover. It really can handle snow well. He shouldn’t get a RWD. It’s not going to be good in a lot of snow. But if you’re getting an S-Class (my favorite sedan in the world) you definitely should NOT get the hybrid. 0-60 in 7 SECONDS! That is VERY slow. It is very sluggish. I know it’s environmentally friendly, but it’s so boring to drive. Don’t get it. One car doesn’t make any difference. The S550 uses a bunch of recycled material- well so does the S400, and the S600, and the S63 and S65, too. Not just the S550. It burns fuel a lot cleaner than a Toyota Prius. Everybody says the Prius is environmentally-friendly, but it’s not! It uses a LOT more energy to make a Prius than an S-Class, but I’m not going to go there. Now I’ll answer your questions one by one. The 2011 S-Class will be released November 15, 2010, but there might be a delay. People will NOT think that he’s poor if he gets the hybrid, people don’t think that when they see hybrids. Some will say, “Ah, there’s an idiot who sacrifices power for environment,” while others will say, “Ah, a good fellow, trying to save the Earth,” but nobody will think that he’s poor. Poor people get the E-Class. Which one do the presidents in Asia and Europe use- definitely the S600. If your dad can afford it, he really should get it, it is a phenomenal car in terms of performance, especially since it is so heavy. But the AMG models are even better. It’s actually kind of tough between the S600 and the S63- the S600 having a smaller engine but 12 cylinders, while the S63 having a larger engine but 8 cylinders. Anyway, is the S400 worth it? Nah. Very expensive, very sluggish, very slow. Of course, it’s an S-Class, and compared to any Lexus LS model, it is better, but for an S-Class, it’s no good. If I could afford it (I can, actually) I would definitely get the S550. The S550 isn’t so bad in terms of environment. You’re right, it has a lot of recycled material, but, then, so does the S400. It definitely burns fuel much cleaner than a Prius- a horrid car indeed. Overall, if he really is willing to sacrifice a lot of performance for environment, he should get the S400, but if he doesn’t want to spend a lot on a car that is VERY slow, he should definitely get the S550/S600, and I would personally get the S600.

Q: (homework) please can you summarize and respond this article?
Air Cars: A New Wind for America’s Roads?
by Jim Ostroff
Thursday, October 30, 2008

Courtesy of MDI
A new carmaker has a plan for cheap, environmentally friendly cars to be built all over the country
An air-powered car? It may be available sooner than you think at a price tag that will hardly be a budget buster. The vehicle may not run like a speed racer on back road highways, but developer Zero Pollution Motors is betting consumers will be willing to fork over $20,000 for a vehicle that can motor around all day on nothing but air and a splash of salad oil, alcohol or possibly a pint of gasoline.

The expertise needed to build a compressed air car, or CAV, is not rocket science, either. Years-old, off-the-shelf technology uses compressed air to drive old-fashioned car engine pistons instead of combusting gas or diesel fuel to create a burst of air to do the same thing. Indian carmaker Tata has no qualms about the technology. It has already bought the rights to make the car for the huge Indian market.
The air car can tool along at a top speed of 35 mph for some 60 miles or so on a tank of compressed air, a sufficient distance for 80% of consumers to commute to work and back and complete daily chores.

Courtesy of MDI
On highways, the CAV can cruise at interstate speeds for nearly 800 miles with a small motor that compresses outside air to keep the tank filled. The motor isn’t finicky about fuel. It will burn gasoline or diesel as well as biodiesel, ethanol or vegetable oil.
This car leaves the highest-mpg vehicles you can buy right now in the dust. Even if it used only regular gasoline, the air car would average 106 mpg, more than double today’s fuel sipping champ, the Toyota Prius. The air tank also can be refilled when it’s not in use by being plugged into a wall socket and recharged with electricity as the motor compresses air.
Automakers aren’t quite ready yet to gear up huge assembly line operations churning out air cars or set up glitzy dealer showrooms where you can ooh and aah over the color or style. But the vehicles will be built in factories that will make up to 8,000 vehicles a year, likely starting in 2011, and be sold directly to consumers.
There will be plants in nearly every state, based on the number of drivers in the state. California will have as many as 17 air car manufacturing plants, and there’ll be around 12 in Florida, eight in New York, four in Georgia, while two in Connecticut will serve that state and Rhode Island.

The technology goes back decades, but is coming together courtesy of two converging forces. First, new laws are likely to be enacted in a few years that will limit carbon dioxide emissions and force automakers to develop ultra-high mileage cars and those that emit minuscule amounts of or no gases linked with global warming. Plug-in electric hybrids will slash these emissions, but they’ll be pricey at around $40,000 each and require some changes in infrastructure — such as widespread recharge stations — to be practical. Fuel cells that burn hydrogen to produce only water vapor still face daunting technical challenges.
Second, the relatively high cost of gas has expedited the air car’s development. Yes, pump prices have plunged since July from record levels, but remain way higher than just a few years ago and continue to take a bite out of disposable income. Refiners will face carbon emission restraints, too, and steeply higher costs will be passed along at the pump.
Zero Pollution Motors doesn’t plan to produce the cars in the U.S. Instead, it plans to charge $15 million for the rights to the technology, a fully built turnkey auto assembly plant, tools, machinery, training and rights to use trademarks.
The CAV has a big hurdle: proving it can pass federal crash tests. Shiva Vencat, president and CEO of Zero Pollution Motors, says he’s not worried. “The requirements can be modeled [on a computer] before anything is built and adjusted to ensure that the cars will pass” the crash tests. Vencat also is a vice president of MDI Inc., a French company that developed the air car.
The inventor of this technology is Mr. Guy Negre, who is the founder and CEO of MDI SA, a company headquartered in Luxembourg with its R and D in Nice, France.

A: Best way to do this assignment is to break it down into bite-size pieces. Take each paragraph and jot down the most important point(s) in it. For example:

An air-powered car? It may be available sooner than you think at a price tag that will hardly be a budget buster. The vehicle may not run like a speed racer on back road highways, but developer Zero Pollution Motors is betting consumers will be willing to fork over $20,000 for a vehicle that can motor around all day on nothing but air and a splash of salad oil, alcohol or possibly a pint of gasoline.

becomes:

Zero Pollution Motors is developing an air-powered car that will cost $20,000 and run all day on nothing but air and a bit of salad oil, alcohol or a pint of gasoline.

Do the same for each paragraph. Now you’ll have a condensed version and, more importantly, it will be in your own words.

Then shorten ever more, if possible.

Q: Discrete and Continuous Data?
I need some homework help… Would “Toyota hopes to produce 100,000 Prius hybrids for the United States in 2011″ be an example of continuous or discrete data? I’m so confused! Please help!

A: Discrete. The number of cars must be an integer.

Q: I don’t know what i can write about this article that relates to microeconomic, please help?
Really need your help , i hav no idea what i can write aboout this article that can relate in the terms econ?
Nisn Price Electic Leaf for U.S and Japan
on tuesday set the pricing for its nw leaf electric car that gos on sale in theU.S and japan in December as the japanee auto maker tries to lure buyers to its big bet on electric vehicles.
in the U.S the zero emissions leaf will carry a sticker price of $32,780 and buyers will be eligible for a $7,00 federal tax credit for lectric vehicles. In Japan the car will cost buyers $32,000 are a governmet incentive is applied there. the price in pan will be 3.76 million yen, or $4,700 before the incentive Nissan abandoned an earlier proosal to lease the Leaf’s bttry to consumers as a way to dera the cost, citing government hurdles in Japan. The auto maker has the capacity o produce 50,000 of the electric vehicles a year in Japan from 2011 to 2013 at which pont nissan will add pruction of te leaf and its batterie in smyrna, tenn. The U.S plant will have the capaity to build 150,00vehicles a year. nissan said t will begin taking purchse oers for the 2011 leaf on april 1 in japan and apr20 i U.S the vehicle hi has a 100 mile range wil be available or sale in all U.S states by the end f 2011. U.S sales of the leaf will begin noregon ,california, washington, arizona and tennessee. “we want to mas aret our ars so our gol ws t sell them at anafordable pice” Nissan’s chief operation officer, Toshiyuki shiga said in Japan. The Leaf has attracted a lot of attention in te auto industry as all electric vehicles have s far ony been sld with high prics and in low volumes. Nissan hopes the laf wll compete with hybridspowered by gasolinnd electricity such as the prius and hoda motor corp’s insight as auto akrs begin to offer ival visions of fuel efficient low emsssion vehice bu electric vehicls remain constried by their batteres limid range. laer this year general motors co. is to begin sales of its rage-extended chevrolet volt electric sedan in california . Michian and washington D.C toyota plans to begin sales of a small electic vehicle in 2012. brian crolin , seniorvc president of sales and marketing for nissan in north america, estimated that the feling costs will be slightly less than a third for a comparable internl cobustion engine. the leaf’s cost to buyers in the U.S is about 21% blow the cost for customers in Japan, inlding japanese goverrnment subsidies. Mr. carolin said the difference is in line with nissan’s global pricing patterns, in which hgher prices are charge in japan and europe. “cars in the U.S are cheper” he said.

A: You poorly re-typed a copyrighted news article from the Wall Street Journal, and then you expect other people to do your homework for you?

PRICELESS!

Q: Discrete and Continuous Data?
I need some homework help… Would “Toyota hopes to produce 100,000 Prius hybrids for the United States in 2011″ be an example of continuous or discrete data? I’m so confused! Please help!

A: *It would be discrete, A discrete variable is one that can have scores of discrete points on a scale. For example, a family can consist of 3 children, 4, children, or 5 children, but not something like 4.5 children. So, Toyota could produce 100,000 hybrids, but not 100,000.5…For your information, a continuous variable is one whose scores on a scale are continuous and not discrete steps. For example, the time to complete a race could be 20.50 seconds or something like 20.5011 seconds*

Q: 2011 Toyota Sienna VS 2011 Chrysler Town and Country?
A friend of mine is a husband and a father of two little boys. and he want to buy a new minivan. but he went both toyota and GM to find a minvan and he had difficulty deciding because he thinks both seems good cars. he don’t care about price, he just wants best minivan with a good Reliablitity, safety and performance and of course looks. so which of these two minivans should be the best for him?

A: sorry to have to say No to chrysler they don’t compare to toyota at all. they are more costly but much better than chrysler . they will be less repairs and more trade value later.

Looking for more information about the 2011 Nissan Altima? Try the amazing Nissan Altima Wikinut Page.

Q: what is your view on the 2011 nissan altima coupe?
im thinking about getting a 2011 altima coupe… what are u guys opinion on that car?

A: Coupe is good for only two people to ride around confortably. If you ever thought of three or 4 passengers better get the sedan.

Q: What is different about the 2011 Nissan Altima Coupe?
I am considering buying a 2010 Altima but I am wondering if I should hold out for the new models to hit the lot. If I do wait, will I still get as good of a deal a few months from now as I would buying a 2010 right now?

A: The only difference between a 2011 and a 2010 Altima Coupe is “Dark Slate” replaces”Metallic Slate” and “Brilliant Silver” replaces “Radiant Silver”, that’s it…as the 2011 Altimas make their way here, the need to move the 2010’s off the lot increases. Now is the time to start looking at the deals on 2010 Altimas in your area, once the 2011’s show up it is time to strike.

Q: What is a better choice? A 2010 Volkswagen convertible beetle or a 2011 Nissan altima?
What is a better and more reliable car? And which is cooler?

A: One is not better than the other.

Both not cool.

Both junk.

Q: Would you recommend the quixx car scratch remover for a 2011 Nissan altima?
I have some few scratches on my car when I was trying to take off the stripes on the car… Do you think it’ll work? If not, what will??
****10 POINTS FOR BEST ANSWER!!!!!

A: Hopefully the scratches are only in the clear coating. If your scratch polish does not work take the car to a carwash detailer to have the areas buffed out. I use two grades of 3M polishes and then wax the entire car. Look at some work that shop is doing to see out in the sun if they leave swirl marks. Good Luck

Q: 2011 Nissan Altima 2.5s current market value?
hey could anyone tell me the current market value of the 2011 nissan altima 2.5s? not the MSRP because i know MSRP is factory recommendation of how much the car is worth but its true cost so please could some one help or provide me some sites that i could use to find out i have one more week before i head down back to the dealership

A: I would say to 10%-20% off the MSRP would be a used value.

Q: Does the 2011 Nissan Altima Coupe have the same body style as the 2010 Nissan Altima Coupe?

A: They are identical. You cannot tell them apart.

From your friendly Nissan Salesperson

Q: 2011 nissan altima 2.5s static from speakers?
hey guys i just bought a 2011 altima 2.5s and i also got a auxiliary cable but when i play a song there i static that is noticeable even when the volume is on 5. the cable is good and the ipod is good because it sounds fine in my friends car. is it the speakers are breaking in? or the aux port on my car is not good

A: Nissans are like that

Q: NISSAN ALTIMA COUPE 2011?
OK SO I HAVE A 08 CAR BUT IM REALLY THINKING OF GETTING A 2011 NISSAN ALTIMA DOES ANYONE HAVE A WEBSITE WERE I COULD LOOK AT THE PICTURES AND DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THE MODEL IS GOING TO CHANGE BECAUSE ITS THE FOURTH YEAR SINCE THE COUPE CAME OUT THANKS

A: www.nissanusa.com currently does not have any information on what the plans are for the 2011 Altima Coupe yet. I would wait a couple months for anything to come out on that. You can always check the website whenever you want and hit “cars” on the top of the webpage. My guess is the Altima will be a repeat of the last 4 years and it won’t be redesigned until the 2012 model year.

Q: Buying a 2011 Nissan Altima 3.5 sr?
Okay, this is quite an involved question with a ton parts

- I’m looking at a 2011 Nissan Altima 3.5SR with the sport package. The msrp is just over 28k (also w/ bluetooth option, which i won’t take if I find one with just the sport package). what is a good price on something like this, I’ve read i should try to get around 4k off msrp with incentives, but I won’t be getting any incentives right now as they’ve passed and I didn’t want to rush in this. I thought about offering 25k and if the dealer raised it, i’d probably say 25.5k with floor mats. I’ve never bought a car and I really don’t feel like getting shafted on my first go. Also, there might be a 2010 altima 3.5sr at the same dealer, and if so, how much is different between the two years, and if I go for the 2010, how much lower should that be because I would think the dealer would want to get rid of it.

- If you can add something about nissan or the altima that I should know about this would probably be a good time (and please don’t say something moronic like i should buy american and this and that). Personally I like everything about the altima. My brother has a 97 pathfinder that has been through hell and back and and 200k miles, still runs fine (though it won’t pass a new inspection from rust). I like how everything is laid out, where some people don’t think it’s stylish inside and out, I personally like the design, it’s simple but provides the functionality I need.

- What is required in the process of buying a car? Do i have to get insurance first or can everything be done at the dealer, just walk in walk out (obviously there’d be quite a bit of time in between walking in and out)

- Also, after I got the car, I’ve got a question about the cvt transmission. I drive automatic, but if need be I can manage in a standard, with the 3.5sr, it’s automatic with a manual mode. If I felt like “pretending” or screwing around in the manual mode, can it damage the transmission or not.

I think I got everything out that I wanted to ask, and I’d appreciate any input you’ve got to give,

thanks,
well, at least i know there’s one person that can’t read.

That’s not what I asked. IF you had actually read what I wrote, I asked not to say something not MORONIC. At the very least you could have backed it up buy saying something supportive of American made cars.

But, I do appreciate your concern, I’ll most likely be sticking with the Nissan, should something change my mind, I would only look back at Subaru, which I looked at first, not and American car.

thanks,
Okay, so I was just offered $25,549 for a 2011 Nissan Altima 3.5SR with the sport package and bluetooth (take it or leave it) with an msrp of $28,140. That to me seems like a deal already, but my brother thinks I should offer 25k with floor mats and pick it up on monday. I’d rather not push it and I was just going to ask for 25.5k with the floor mats (which by the way is below invoice of $26,575). BUT, he said that the price included available rebates, incentives, and discounts, and as far as I know I wont be getting any rebates or incentives. (I live in upstate New York if it matters).

So, what do you think should i try for any more or let it go?

A: First Floor mats are standard on any new car. 10 vs 11? Are you going to drive it til it drops? If so make your best deal on the 2010. If you trade out in 2-3 years, leasing is a better option. Pay and walk away. Using the manual mode which is available on the 10 or 11. You will not damage the transmission. It’s there for a toy for us that still want to play. I have one. Once a month after a few drinks, use it. If you have insurance now, you can transfer it at the time of purchase. If you do not have full coverage and finance or lease, you must have full coverage before taking delivery. The Nissan is good for 200 to 300k without major problems from my past experience. Dealers play a good game when pricing is concerned. Walk out once or twice. Keep asking for the best deal I guarantee they’ll call you back with a lower price.

Q: 2011 nissan altima coupe vs 2011 mazda 3?? please help!!?
so my birthdays coming up, and i get my license a month after and ive been looking at cars. im torn between two choices, the 2011 altima coupe and 2011 mazda 3. i know people with both cars and know that they r reliable and great. i like the look of the inside of the mazda more, but the features in both about the same (if i get a good trim on the mazda. the nice stuff, push button start, keyless entry, etc. comes standard on the altima) . i prefer the look of the altima on the outside and i like that its a coupe. i have yet to test drive either, but i hear they r both awesome. some people told me that the coupe looks a bit too old for a new driver, but others said it was fine. please help me decide? facts, experiences, website links r all appreciated! thanks!
yea, my parents r buying it for me. but their afraid of used cars.. they think itll break down or something. i tried convincing them before, but no… haha
if u guys r gonna suggest other cars, keep in mind the insurance has to cover it…

A: that 3 is great/get the 2.3 engine and it flys/altima is anemic compared to the 3

Q: current market value for 2011 nissan altima 2.5s?
hey could anyone tell me the current market value of the 2011 nissan altima 2.5s? not the MSRP because i know MSRP is factory recommendation of how much the car is worth but its true cost so please could some one help or provide me some sites that i could use to find out i have one more week before i head down back to the dealership
ok for me the car is worth at most 20-21k current market value
the dealer is trying to sell me a 2.5s with nothing except carpet mats for 19500 but that still isnt a good deal

A: Watch out read before you sign any contract. Use the “nissanusa.com” web site for MSRP anything less your dealer is either offering less on your trade in or cutting there mark up. Become a educated customer know the car completely you will get a better deal. What is wrong in buying a 2010? Brand new 2011 will still be at full price. I also caution you that the base model Altima S does not have the nice features like Bluetooth auto down and up front windows steering wheel audio controls and power seats and more air bags and fog lights. Features that cannot be added afterward. So barter like a rug dealer work the deal hold your ground.

Q: Did a get a good deal on an 2011 Nissan Altima?
I am really starting to question whether I got a good deal on this car or not. I traded in my Jeep Commander 06, 8 cyl fully loaded but not the limited version for $10,500 but I owed $14,500 on it. I got an 2011 Nissan Altima 2.5 fully loaded (nav, leather, sunroof, bose, dvd, etc…) for $26,000 with 0 % for 60 months when the asking price was $29,000. They also added an additional 3,000 to my loan so that I can pay off the Jeep. Please let me now if I made a good deal or got ripped off. Thank you!
I made a mistake the actual sticker price on the car was $30,660

A: The purchase price and financing of you new car sounds good, the trade in value sux but that’s how it goes. I say not a great deal but you didn’t get ripped either. At least you new car will get much better gas mileage and probably cheaper insurance over the next few years.

Q: Is the 2011 Nissan Altima 2.5 a good car?
I am 18 years old and this will be my first car that I will own. My dad has agreed to buy me a brand new one. Are they good cars? Are they cool or cheap? Are they reliable? Any advice on this car would be great. Thanks.

A: get the coupe

Q: 2011 nissan altima coupe?
I have the 2010 to this, but i just wanted to know whats the difference between the two? because the body somewhat looks the same…

A: 2008 to 2011 coupes are the same except for minor tirm differences. As technology gets better the audio system has more features like Hard Drive and Navigation. I think the head light lenses were bubbled out more on the 2011. 4 CLY or V-6 and transmision choices are the same you have a very nice car.

Q: what’s a fair cash price for a 2011 Nissan Altima 3.5 SR?
it has leather, nav, 9 speaker bose, etc
it has 7.9 miles on, 6 of which I put on it.

A: I would say about $30,000 plus TT&L for a Sedan or $31,700 plus TT&L for the Coupe. Check out Edmunds.com

Q: When is the 2011 Honda Civic being released?
I am in the market for a new Civic, but I wanted to know when the new 2011 Civic is going to be lauched. Any ideas?

A: Honda usually debuts it’s new models between late August and November. You can preorder a new Civic to ensure you’ll be one of the first who gets one. Also, the 2011 Civic will be almost identical to the 2010, the full model change is for the 2012 model year.

Q: What is the differents in 2011 Honda Civic vp, lx, dx?
The 2011 Honda Civic looks nice, but I want to know want it means by Honda Civic VP, Honda Civic LX, and Honda Civic DX. Please help asap! Thanks.

A: Different trim levels. In order of number of options:

DX
DX-VP
LX
LX-S
EX
EX-L

Get the specifics here:

Q: Should I get 2006 Acura RSX Type-S or 2011 Honda Civic SI coupe?
Also would maintenance cost more for a 2006 Acura RSX type-s or a new 2011 Honda Civic SI coupe?

A: I wouldn’t get any of them.

They’re all the same garbage car that’s been rebadged with different names.

If your buying an Acura, you’re buying a POS Honda.

Q: What are my other options other than a 2011 honda civic si?
Im going to go buy a 2011 si next week, but are there any other cars new or used in a 25k price range that are faster and look just as nice as the civic. Just something that is overall better, and nicer. If u suggest a used car it must be newer than 2007. No evo’s or sti’s.

I am also considering a used 2007 acura tl type s

A: Get the 2011 civic. Forget the Acura.

Q: What’s the difference between the 09 and 2011 honda civic si?

A: The only difference is that the 2011 has the LX-S trim level, everything else is the same.

Q: Difference in 2010 and 2011 Honda Civic Si?
I have been looking into buying a new car and i chose the 2010 Civic Si coupe After i made my decision, however, the 2011 got announced which gave me another choice. 2010 or 2011. My question is what are the specific differences if any. I know that ‘09 vs ‘10 was they changed the engine cover color from silver to black, so does anyone know yet what they modified if anything?

A: The 2010 and 2011 Civic Si are pretty much identical.

Q: 2011 Honda Civic is blowing oil out of the tail pipe.?
I see small spots of oil on the rear bumper around the tailpipe. It’s going through 3 quarts about every 1000 miles. What do I need to look at?

A: You are going to have to hold the dealer’s feet to the fire over this. The oil consumption is what you need to focus on. It is a relatively rare problem now, but about 5 years ago Honda had problems with cars that were in the warranty period suddenly consuming a quart every 1000 miles. Not many dealers wanted to hunt that down and most just mumbled platitudes and hustled the customers out the door. The few dealers that stood up and did something found broken compression rings, although the compression test didn’t show anything wrong. There was never a TSB as far as I know so we don’t know what the root cause was but it sure sounds like the ring end gaps were too small. I believe engine replacement was the fix for all the affected cars. I know if I were a Honda exec I wouldn’t want engines that failed so early to be out in the field.

Q: 2011 Honda Civic = new model?
Hi, I’m currently driving a leased 2007 Honda Civic.
My lease expires this coming September and I was looking into purchasing a 2011 Civic when the new model comes out but the rumor mill says that they’re going to overlook their usual five-year swap and unveil the ninth generation in 2012? Does anyone have a credible source for this or is it just speculation?
Also, does anyone have any information on what the 2011 will look like? I’ve seen a futuristic red coloured rendering of what it could look like but everything else looks like a European model of the eighth gen.
Thanks for your help!
Thank you, could you please cite your source for this?

A: The 2012 model is when it’s going to be totally redesigned and it should be out in late 2011. There is no official announcement from Honda, so, we are all just guessing right now. I guess the Civic is going to be slightly small then the current generation, but it’s hard to say for sure what it is going to look like.

Q: When do the new 2011 honda civic’s come out?
it’s a brand new model.
sometime in august?
when when when?
Did you totally make that up..?

A: The 2011 is not a brand new model, the 2012 will be totally redesigned. The 2011 Civics should be out 3rd or 4th quarter, it depends on the dealer. My dealer usually gets them in August, but some dealers don’t get them until November. You can pre-order yours so you’ll get the one you want.

Q: Any has an 2010 or 2011 Honda civic? If So how do you like it?
This will be my first car and i wanted to know should i stick with it because i will be getting it next week. I need pros and cons and yes i looked at some reviews i just want another persons opinion! =)

A: Congrats on your car. I have a 2006 Civic, but mechanically, they are identical. It is a nice, reliable compact car and a great first car. It gets awesome gas mileage (unless you’re a lead foot all the time). Overall, it’s a great little car.

If you’re already definitely getting it, then I hope you like it, as well. But if you can wait a bit, the all new 2012 Civic with a new body and features is scheduled to be revealed next month and should be in dealerships early 2011. Good luck!

Q: Can I install the 14″ winter tires and wheels from my 2001 Honda Civic on a 2011 Civic which has 15″ wheels?
Do they have the same bolt pattern and is the circumference close enough?

A: No, you cannot. Your 2011 Civic has a 5×114.3 wheel, the 2001 has a 4×100 wheel.

Q: What should I do to my 2011 civic coupe to make it sound louder and deeper?
I just bought a 2011 honda civic coupe, and I want to make it sound louder and deeper. I dont want it to sound like a ricer car, just something that I can hear when I turn it on and off, and when I’m driving. I know nothing about exhausts or converters or any of that stuff, I just want it to sound good =)

A: Why bother? It’s a Honda! It’ll never sound good. But if you must, change the muffler at a performance store.

Q: Did i get a good deal? 2011 Honda Civic EX Coupe?
I bought a 2011 Honda Civic EX Coupe with an automatic transmission about a week ago and wanted to get some input on the deal i got. I negotiated them down to $19,275 on the sticker price. I have absolutely no credit history and my co-signer already had two relatively new cars under his name which his income couldn’t justify so they financed us at 5.9% for 6 years. Does that sound about right? After state fees, the alarm system, and GAP protection it came out to $23,364. i put a down payment of $2,000 so i ended up financing $21,364 at $353 a month for 6 years. Any input appreciated. thanks

A: New car = bad idea.
6 years = bad idea.
Alarm & GAP= bad idea. (Both are nearly all profit for the dealer)

You will end up paying $27,416 plus full coverage insurance for 6 years for a car that is worth, at best $16,500 right now and 6 years from now, probably wont be worth $6000. $353 a month plus insurance…and what if you lose your job ?

Other than that, you did ok.

Q: 2011 Honda Civic Si “break-in” period concerns?
I recently bought a brand new 2011 Civic si coupe, one week ago to be exact. The dealer told me not to bring the rpms above 5,000 and no heavy accelerating or braking. This is also what the owners manual says to do. I have about 480 miles on my car right now and I bought it with 77 miles on it already.

I have been following the “break-in” guidelines pretty well I think, however, I have a couple concerns.

This is my first manual transmission car (which I love by the way, much more fun than automatic), and I am learning how to drive manual with it. I’ve had very little previous experience driving manual before, so this week has basically been the only experience I’ve had (I drove a manual truck a couple times and my friend’s Acura RSX).

So you can imagine that I’ve stalled a number of times and accidentally over rev’d the engine a few times as well. I believe I’ve stalled out maybe 7 or 8 times, but I’ve gotten the hang of it now. I’ve accidentally over rev’d the engine maybe 3 or 4 times, up to about 5,000-5,200 rpms. Is this a bad thing? Will it cause damage to my new car?

There have been about 2 or 3 times I’ve accelerated quickly, not to the point where the VTEC would engage, but around the 4,300-4,500 rpm range. Is this a bad thing too? I just couldn’t help myself, it was so much fun!

Another concern, the shifter doesn’t feel quite as smooth as it did at day one when I put it into gear. It doesn’t always feel like this, but enough for it to be noticeable. Am I being over paranoid and this is just normal? Or is it something to be concerned with?

Also, I just found out today that there is a small horizontal scratch on my driver’s side door that’s about an inch long. Would something like this be easily buffed out?

Thank you for reading, and sorry about the length!

A: 1. Your treatment of the engine would not cause any concern from your description. You should one you hit the 600 mile point start to increase the max revs gradually over the next 600 miles. Do not get to 600 and then go for it. Until you hit 1000 miles try to avoid driving at the same speed all the time and vary it just alittle as you cruise. If it has cruise control do not use it until you hit at least 1000 miles.

2. Shifter – no way to judge without trying it

3. No way to know without seeing it.

Q: How much should I pay for a 2011 Honda Civic Si sedan “base model”?
I live in California, Los Angeles to exact. I am looking into purchasing a 2011 Honda Civic Si Sedan “base model”. How much should I pay for the car out the door at the dealer ship including all fee’s..etc?

This is going to be my very first vehicle purchase from a dealer.
So any tips on how to get a great deal or anything below MSRP would be great.

I plan to give a down payment off 11k cash and I have a FICA credit score of 812.

Will giving such a large down help me get a better deal at the dealership?
I plan to do a 60 month finance and actually pay the car off in about a year and a half to 2.

Any info will really help thanks!

A: I would suggest doing a search engine search.

Q: 1967 Chevrolet Impala?
My friends and I are planning a trip across America in 2011 or so, I know its early but I was wondering if Chevrolet ever made a manual v8 version of the Impala and if so is there any way of finding one. Thanks in advance.

A: they did put 4 speeds in them but will be hard to find any early impala if you find an auot trans they can be converted to 4 speeds

Q: Dale Earnhardt Jr. to RCR in 2011?
Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s comments at Charlotte that he’s at the end of his rope, along with the strong inference by Kevin Harvick that he’s leaving Richard Childress Racing at the end of next season.

And then, as he put it, Kelly connected the dots and came up with an intriguing possibility: could Harvick’s leaving open the door for Earnhardt to leave Hendrick Motorsports and join RCR for 2011? .

Think about it: Harvick leaves RCR and Junior arrives, just in time for the 10th anniversary of his late father’s death at Daytona International Speedway. What better way for Junior and Childress to make a huge splash than by bringing back the black No. 3 Chevrolet – and for Little E to drive it.

“Everybody out there knows that the Childress-Dale Jr. union is NASCAR’s missing link, you know, the next big thing, a moon shot for the sport,” Kelly wrote. “It would bring one aspect of NASCAR full circle.”

Think a bit more outside of the box and it could make tremendous sense, particularly if Earnhardt struggles with HMS again in 2010. Even though he has a five-year deal with Hendrick that runs through 2012, if the marriage just isn’t working – and if it continues to look next year like it never will work – I’m betting Hendrick would cut Junior loose from his contract if he asks.

And, even though Earnhardt and Hendrick have had a close relationship for years, it’s nowhere near as close as the relationship Junior has had with Childress his entire life, particularly while growing up. Junior thinks of Richard as a second father and Richard thinks of Junior as a son. What better way to welcome the prodigal son back into the family, so to speak, than to put him in his father’s old ride?

Do you know what such a reunion of sorts would do to NASCAR? The publicity alone would be the biggest and most positive we’ve seen in many years, even bigger than when Junior announced he was leaving DEI for Hendrick Motorsports.

If it were to happen, the Junior Nation would go crazier than it ever has. And can you imagine the tens of millions of dollars that Junior, Childress and Hendrick (certainly, he has to have some kind of cut of the pie if he lets Junior out of his contract) could rake in with souvenir and memorabilia sales from diecasts to jackets, from ball caps to t-shirts.

And what about Chevrolet? With all the economic woes it and General Motors have had, this wouldn’t be just a home run, it would be the equivalent of 100 grand slams. I can already see thousands of young bucks lining up at their local Chevy dealer to buy an upcoming Dale Earnhardt Jr. model Impala – in all-black, of course.

Harvick, from what I’ve been hearing, has a number of options on the table. He could join Stewart Haas Racing as a third driver (most likely), stays with RCR or starts his own Cup team (both not as likely) or, in a rather interesting twist, would drive for Junior if he decides to start his own Cup operation (remains to be seen).

It’s not outlandish at all. Junior’s father built DEI while racing for RCR. Why can’t Junior race for RCR while taking JR Motorsports to the next most logical level: Cup racing?

A: I hope Junior goes to RCR. He has NOT done well with HMS, and it seems that the more they try to improve things for him on the team, the more he goes downward in this spiral. No, it’s not outlandish. It does all makes sense. He should go for it, and HMS should suck it up.

Looking for more information about the 2011 Honda Accord? Try the amazing Honda Accord Wikinut Page.

Q: What is the Audio/Sound system in the 2011 Honda Accord Coupe?
Its full option. I know its 7 Speakers but what company makes it?

A: It’s either Alpine or Pioneer.

Q: Why does my brand new 2011 Honda Accord 4 cylinder get less than 20 mpg city/highway combined?
I purchased a new 2011 Honda Accord 4-door, 4 cylinder sedan December 1, 2010. I have filled it 5 times. I have been doing a combination of city and highway driving. I am always keep to the speed limit, and since I am driving with young children, never brake hard or accelerate too quickly. I have yet to get even 20 mpg. Ever tank has been less than 20 mpg. With my previous car (a 1995 Volvo 850 sedan) I got great gas mileage and always higher in the winter when I am not using A/C. I am already concerned that with A/C I will get even lower gas mileage. The sole reason I chose this car over another one I was considering was gas mileage. Any helpful hints? I have tried visiting several different gas stations and nothing is working. I also find it odd that the first tank of gas (from the dealer b/c it was full when I purchased it) gave me such poor gas mileage. Someone told me the car will take longer to warm up in the cold, but I have not gotten better gas mileage on longer highway trips. Also, this is not my first car and I have always lived in cold climates and I have always gotten good gas mileage in winter. Please help!

A: Several Reasons,
Your engine and drive train is new. The gas mileage will go up quite a bit as the car gets broken in. It’ll probably be a good 5000 miles before you really start seeing it rise.

Check the tire pressure. You may find it is lower than the Honda Recommend PSI on the door. You may also want to experiment with higher tire pressures. My Honda Accord (a 1999 V6) gets quite a bit better gas mileage with the tires at 42 psi(two psi below the sidewall max cold.) The handling also sharpens up quite a bit. The caveat is that the ride is a bit stiffer and harsher. Tread wear has always been even for me even at the higher pressure.

Use regular gas instead of Premium. regular gas has more chemical energy per gallon than premium.

On my Honda Accord if you turn the defroster ON. The AC automatically is turned on as well. I manually turn it off by hitting my relevant switch. You may have a similar situation.

Floor it every once in a while during the break in period(I know honda says don’t) It will help get your rings probably sealing and set your car up for long term good gas mileage and low oil consumption.

My Accord gets the best gas mileage on shell. I don’t know why but its just something ive noticed.
Wait until after the first oil change to judge your gas mileage. My mothers 2007 Accord gas mileage improved after changing the factory break in oil. It has special additives to help with break in so do not remove it early but just keep in mind that it may not be oil that gives optimal gas mileage.

Q: I got offer for 2011 Honda Accord EXL V4 $ 24200.Color is Black and Black. It is good offer?
P Mack I like your comments…and welcome to others.

Thanks

A: Sounds pretty reasonable.. I don’t know specifics on prices but I know the EXL V6 can go for over $30k, so mid $20’s for 4-cyl seems ok.. Shop around don’t just take the first offer you get.

Q: How quick does a Honda Accord coupe go 0-60 MPH?
A 2011 Honda Accord coupe with the 190 HP 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine and automatic transmission?

A: 6.8 to 7.5 seconds if it was a manual it would be faster

Q: difference between 2010 Honda accord sedan LX and 2011 Honda accord sedan LX?
i just wanted to know the difference between those 2 cars

A: The 2011 Accord is mid-cycle refresh, meaning there are slight exterior, interior and engine tweaks. http://www.hondapreview.com/accord/index.htm

Q: 2011 honda civic or 2011 honda accord?
18 year old college student that needs a car!
which one do you recommend!?

please & thank you!(:

A: Either car would do nicely. It just depends on your wants/needs when it comes to interior size. The Civic is a nice compact car, whereas the Accord is significantly bigger as it is a midsize family sedan. If you will be carrying people in the back seat often, the Accord is a good choice for comfort (more rear leg room) Also, the Accord was recently updated for 2011 with a reworked transmission and aero upgrades for modest fuel economy gains.

The Civic is an all around good performer, but is getting a bit long in the tooth when compared to newer offerings in the compact car segment (Chevy Cruze, Hyundai Elantra, VW Jetta, etc). However, both are very reliable. I am a Honda fan myself.

If you can afford to wait a bit, the all new 2012 Civic will be revealed at the North American Auto Show in January, and should be in dealerships early 2011. It should put the Civic back in front (or at least close to it) in the compact segment.

Q: 2011 Honda Accord Coupe Vs. Nissan Maxima Coupe?
Which do you think is better and why!!!

A: Honda Accord!

Q: When do the 2011 Honda Accords come out?
I’m planning on buying a 2008 Honda Accord V6 Coupe. There’s not really any other cars that have caught my interest. I’m not looking to pay over $400 a month.

I was planning on purchasing the car in July but I heard that it would be better to buy the car towards October. Will the price drop if I buy the car once the 2011 Accords are released? If so, when do the 2011 models come out?
I’m planning on buying it pre-owned from the dealer. I live in California if it makes a difference. Thanks.

A: Excellent choice my friend! The current generation V6 Coupes are absolutely stunning and the manual is fast (relative). There is a charcoal one just down the road from my house (drool!)

Honda traditionally releases it’s new models in the fall (although the industry itself continues to push release dates up.) So look for the 2011 in August, September, or October. There are no drastic mechanical changes expected for the 2011 Accord. Just some refreshening of the nose and tail and some minor interior changes. It is rumored to get it’s next full redesign in model year 2013.

That said, I wouldn’t expect the arrival of the 2011 to affect your pricing of a 2008. But definitely shop around. It’s worth driving an hour or two to get the one you want at the price you want.

Good luck!

Q: What is the best family sedan? Honda Accord 2011? Sonata 2011?
I have done my research and learned that the Sonata has come a long way. I currently own an Accord with a V6 and I love the extra horse power. I want something that does have some power. I was thinking about looking at the Sonata Turbo. What is Turbo by the way? Is it better than a V6 engine? What are the pros and cons of the Accord and Sonata? Is there any other car that I am missing out on? I don’t really like Camry because I don’t like the drive as much. What is the invoice for the Sonata and Accord?

A: Hyundai got rid of their V6 model for the Sonata because the gas mileage was bad so the turbo has more power, but it’s a 4 cylinder. From looking at cars for myself, I went with the Honda because the space in the front of a Sonata is small. I’m 5′2” and my head was almost touching the ceiling in the front. I don’t think that would be safe in an accident as much as they try and excuse it. The invoices of the cars are similar. They range from low 20s to high 20s, but Honda negotiates more. I’ve been to several Hyundai dealerships and they don’t like to give cars for invoice. I have a Honda and I got it below invoice because I bought a car report so I knew exactly what they were paying for the car. The only other car I would suggest is the Altima. Also, if you are looking at slightly more expensive cars, you could get a Subaru because it’s 4 wheel drive so it’s safer. The Sonata drives nicely and everything about it is pretty nice except for the fact that it’s small in the front and from experience people at Hyundai dealerships tend to be seedier people. I do evaluations for car companies so I see how they treat customers from a different perspective. The accord is nice. The interior looks really nice. It drives well and it gets good mileage. It also has a decent amount of power.. even the 4 cylinder. Good luck.

P.S. American cars have more problems so I wouldn’t suggest any of them.

Q: What is a faster way to find a new Honda Accord 2011 LX-P in celestial blue color in CA, very hard to find?
I live in CA but Honda does not make many of the light blue colors available. Is there a way online to search dealers with the click of a button or do I have to make a call to each dealer one by one? Many times the salesperson will not disclose which colors they have in stock, and sometimes lie that they have it when they do not. I cannot drive to each dealer because this would take forever.

A: I found that if you are a serious buyer, the salesperson will go in their and the other dealers’ database and see where the exact car you want is. You could place an order for the car, just to ensure you get the exact car you want.

Q: Should I get the Honda Accord Coupe or the Nissan Altima Coupe?
I’m getting a new car and I really like how these two are styled…
I like the coupe, because the shape just seems to look better than the four door styles.
So I’d just like your input on which one I should get…
http://www.nissanusa.com/altimacoupe/
2011 nissan altima coupe
or
http://automobiles.honda.com/accord-coupe/
2011 honda accord coupe

A: On paper they are both pretty similar. Go test drive them and see which one you think feels and drives better..

Q: What’s better? G25 or Honda Accord?
I really really badly want a 2011 Infiniti G25 Sedan Journey but my fiance wants a 2011 Honda Accord EX. Which is better?

A: Neither, you are comparing unreliable junque to unreliable junque so flip a coin. They are both going to make you learn where every mechanic in town lives and unless you want to be branded as BORING don’t get either since they are both famous for being BORING cars.
Besides, Japanese and Korean quality has been going down hill faster than a rocket powered sled on a greased rail in recent years.
Get American or European for quality and safety, Japanese and Korean cars are pretty crappy for the most part.

Q: Can somebody give me the exact specs for stock honda accord 19 in rim and tire.?
I bought a 2011 accord with 17 in rims and want to put the stock 19 in rim and tire cause they look better. I have to buy them aftermarket cause there too freakin expensive at dealer.

A: Why would you go to the dealer? Go to sears. They always have Tires on sale. With a 19in rim your gunna want 215/40/19’s. I would recommend the Falken 502’s or some Michelin’s. In case your not familiar in tire mesurements here is how its broken down.

215/40/19 = 215 is how wide the tire is or better to side how much tire rubber is on the ground. My personal opinion is put the wides tire you can on your rim. Will give you better grip on the road.

215/40/19 = 40 is the profile of the tire. You ever see big rims with really thin tires? Well the middle number tells you the thickness of the tire from the side of the rim to where the top of the tire is. Anything 40 and below is considered “Low Profile Tires”

215/40/19 = 19, kinda obvious. Its the size of the rim the tire is made for.

Hope this helped. Keep those other smaller rims. Put Winter/Snow tires on them in case you live in an area where it snows. Then you dont have to tear up those rims come winter. Just swap them out. Hope this helped.

Q: Which is the better car? The 2011 Hyundai Sonata or Honda Accord.?
I am leaning toward the Sonata but am not sure.

Also which do you think looks better?

A: When Hyundai first came out, it was a vehicle that you could not give away. Over the years it has improved greatly but has not yet come up to the quality of the Honda. In short, It’s Sonata Honda but getting better all the time. Many years of working on them tells me to go with the Honda.

Q: how to make honda accord sedan 2010 look like 2011? how much will it cost?

A: You can find most of the parts used on the internet, the costs will vary and overall may not be worth it.

Looking for more information about the 2011 Ford Fusion? Try the amazing Ford Fusion Wikinut Page.

Q: 2011 Ford fusion spart or 2011 mazda3 sport 4 door?
Does anyone drive a 2011 Mazda3 four door or a 2011 Ford Fusion sport? Im having a hard time deciding between the two. I plan on buying one of them in about a month. What is your opinion? Please tell me anything you may know about these 2 cars. Which would you buy?

A: after comparing both vehicles side by side if money is an issue go with the mazda3 its better on gas and the price is just right……safety and other futures such as the radio etc.i will go with the ford

Q: I recently bought a 2011 Ford Fusion Sport and I would like to get more power out of it… Any Idea of Up’s?
I’m looking for Performance Up’s for my 2011 ford fusion sport but I dont want to VOID my Warranty since its new…
its a 6 cylinder

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carquotes.sinfree.net

Q: 2011 Ford Fusion transmission problems?
I’m interested in buying the 2011 Fusion. Love the car. But am concerned about these ongoing issues with the transmission. Rough shifts, slipping, etc. Wondering if anyone here owns a 2011 and is having any issues?

A: I have a 2010 should be the same as a 2011 it has almost 40k on it No transmission problems to date.

Q: 2011 Ford fusion sport or 2011 mazda3 4 door?
2011 Ford fusion sport or 2011 mazda3 4 door?
2011 Ford fusion spart or 2011 mazda3 sport 4 door?
Does anyone drive a 2011 Mazda3 four door or a 2011 Ford Fusion sport? Im having a hard time deciding between the two. I plan on buying one of them in about a month. What is your opinion? Please tell me anything you may know about these 2 cars. Which would you buy?

A: The 2011 Ford Fusion is built on the Mazda6 platform, so its a little heavier than the Mazda3. If you are looking for a sporty drive, then go with the Mazda3. It also has better handling and performance. If you need a mid-size family car then choose the Ford Fusion.

Q: whats the differnce between transmissions on cars ex: 2011 ford fusion les’? one is more?
they are both 2011 ford fusion les’ but one’s msrp is 24,000 and the other is 28,000. different gas and/or different transmissions or engines? i’m confused?????

A: If a car has an automatic and manual transmission option then one will be more than the other just as it would be with an optional engine like a hybrid or one with a turbo. Also, just because two cars are the same model one may have more options like power accessories or GPS. Optional alloy wheels are another reason for a large price difference. Basically, every extra you get with any given model will jack up the price compared to basic no frills model.

Q: 2011 ford fusion sport Engine Upgrades? More HP?
I want to add more power in my 2011 ford fusion sport! Any idea what would do this? Turbo kits? superchargers kits? etc… Please help!

A: It took about 3 years before someone came out with a turbo kit for the original Fusion. One of the problems is the tight fit under the hood, which is even tighter on the new models. The other issue is that Ford will void your warranty on the entire driveline in a heartbeat if you so much as tweak with the ECU firmware, let alone hang a turbo or supercharger on it.

Q: Anybody here own a 2011 Ford Fusion?
I like this car but am reluctant to buy a Ford. Would like to know your experiences with this car?
Any problems?

A: I had a 2006 Ford Fusion up until it was totalled in September by a negligent driver slamming into my rear…

The way I was hit (completely stopped at red light and he hit me in a big Ford F-150 going 40+mph) he completely totalled my car…but my baby was in the back seat and we both walked away FINE!!!!! Now Ford is a great car to have protected us the way it did especially my baby boy! and for it having been a 4 year old car with 68k miles I got a great check back out of it. $12,500! Pretty good re-sale value for a 4year old car.

I highly recommend FORD & especially FORD FUSIONS! I still say the fusion kept my son safe and alive!

Although I did not rebuy a fusion because I couldnt find one that was just like mine I did however buy a ford product, the mazda =] and I love it just as much. I totalled my newly bought one by a deer and it protected me and my son great!! & I have since last week just bout another Mazda! Hopefully this one will last a little longer though!

Good Luck in your Vehicle purchasing expedition!

Q: Difference between the 2010 & 2011 Ford Fusion Hybrid?
Does anyone know the differences between the 2 model years of Ford Fusion Hybrids?

I’m leaning towards getting the 2011, but there are currently no incentives near me. If I were to go with a brand new 2010, I might be able to get $2K cash back.

Would I be an idiot to go with the 2011, or are there legitimate reasons to get the latest model?

In my twisted brain I imagine the 2010’s have been sitting around for a year and that they may already have been driven quite a bit for test drives. Am I a bit wacko for thinking this way?

A: Not a lot, really. If you get the integrated nav system it comes with HD radio now. Big whoop. If you do not opt for BLIS, it comes with integrated blind spot mirrors. Another big whoop — $3 at Wally World for a couple of convex stick-ons. Other than that there are some tweaks to the control systems and the EcoDisplay that frankly are probably not worth the slightly higher asking price and the loss of the $2k factory assistance on the purchase price if you go with a leftover 2010 model.

Some 2010 leftovers may have a few hundred miles on them from test drives but they still qualify as new vehicles as long as they were never registered.

Q: What are the benefits of a 2011 Lincoln MKZ Ultimate over 2011 Ford Fusion Sport w/402A and Comfort Package?
I want to justify the price of a 2011 Lincoln MKZ Ultimate 102A Package over a 2011 Ford Fusion Sport w/402A and Comfort Package? There must be some significant differences, but I’m having trouble identifying them and justifying the 2011 Lincoln MKZ’s price. Looking for details (build quality differences, features, etc.)

A: A lot of the price difference can be accounted for by aesthetics. You’ll notice the flashier front fascia of the Lincoln, as well as luxurious wood trim on the interior. You’ll get THX-certified audio in the Lincoln, as well as chrome wheels (the Fusion has painted aluminum wheels). Another plus with the Lincoln is that you’ll likely get much less interior noise, as it’s a luxury car (though the Ford isn’t exactly going to be as loud as a stadium to begin with).

To sum it up simply, you’ll find that the price discrepancy for the Lincoln isn’t fully accounted for. While some of the price goes into slightly nicer components and looks, much of what you’re paying for is Lincoln’s name. (As a side note, the entire Ford Motor Company, including Lincoln, have been upping their game dramatically for the past few years, and look to only pass more of the competition in the coming decade, so you’re making a solid investment either way). Good luck!

Q: 2011 Ford Fusion or 2011 Chevy Cruze?
Was bored today and started looking up cars I came across these affordable cars and wanted to ask your opinions. Which car would you like to drive and why? Personally I really like the Ford Fusion, there so many cool gadgets!
Okay lets make things interesting 2011 Ford Fusion or Honda Accord? I would still take the ford but I wouden’t drive it…i’m just not a fan hehe

A: I think it isn’t fair to compare the two because the Fusion is larger and more powerful. The slowest Fusion has 156 hp while the Chevy only has about 140 hp on tap. If you’re going to compare the Fusion with a Chevy, that Chevy should be the Malibu but if you ask me, I’d prefer the Ford because first of all, its base price is about $2,000 to $3,000 less than the Malibu and it offers more equipment.

Q: Thoughts on the Ford Fusion 2011?
Hi I’m wondering if I should buy the new Ford Fusion and if anyone here owns this car, I have been looking at it online and like it very much, I currently have a Audi and I am looking to sell that to Audi or another place for around 10,000. The options I picked on the Fusion came to a total of around 33,000. These are the options I chose, tell me what you think -

A: A Ford Fusion is an excellent choice. You will find the options you selected are a great combination. Good thing about Fords, cost of ownership is pretty low compared to an Audi. An oil change for a Fusion is about $30 ($40 with a tire rotation) and you only need to do it every 7,500 miles.

I always suggest new cars for the safety features. Things like side airbags, traction control, roll stability, etc. were all options 5-6 years ago. Most of these are required by the government now.

You’re only choice left for the Fusion is the engine size. 2.5L, 3.0L, or 3.5L. I prefer the 2.5L for the fuel economy, but the other two engines are good too.

Q: I’m thinking of trading in my 2008 Ford Fusion for a new 2011 Hyundai Sonata. Looking for some advice?
I recently purchased the Ford Fusion, but after 4 months, it is getting poor mileage and I haven’t had good experiences with the dealership. I’ve seen alot of good reviews about the 2011 Sonata and the price seems right (MSRP 21,800 at the dealership I’m looking at). Any insight or advice on any of the following: Ford Fusion Trade-In Value, Sonata Reviews, Negotiating Price Etc….?

A: financially, it is a terrible decision.
You will probably be upside-down on the Fusion unless you put a considerable amount down when you bought it.
If this is the case, expect to pay a couple grand out of pocket just to offset the negative equity.

Q: 2011 Hyundai sonata vs 2010 Ford Fusion sport?
Both fully loaded with navigation leather and all. The fusion sport is much quicker and more expensive and in almost a different class but these are my two favorites and i’m wondering which is better and is the fusion worth the extra money.

A: Hey,
Ok, if you are buying a reliable car then both are very reliable. But, hyundai comes with 10 years 100K miles warranty. I beats Ford in warranty.
Fusion is faster than Sonata because its 6 cylinder. Now if you want hp, then maybe you might wanna wait little bit, maybe couple of months. Sonata 4 cylinder turbo should be coming up this summer, with power of 6 cylinder but with mpg of small sedan. I am talking about 34 mpg on highways. Really.
Now, for me Sonata looks much more luxury since its a sedan coupe. there is only two other cars like that in the streets, VW CC and Mercedes CLS. Sonata’s design is different than other midsize sedans.
Interior I am not sure, both cars have great interior.
So, if I was gonna choose between these two cars I would go with Sonata. Also don’t listen to people who say Hyundai resale is bad, thats not true, Sonata, Santa Fe, Genesis and Elantra have really good resale value. Hyundai also was ranked highest in customer review and more customers return to Hyundai than to any other auto makers. really.
Well, good luck and let us know, what was your final decision.
Best of luck,

Q: Mileage on the Ford Fusion Hybrid?
Okay, so Ford is claiming 41 miles per gallon. Supposedly if you keep the car below 47 miles an hour, you drive on the electric motor. So is the 41 mpg what you get on the gas engine alone? Let me ask it another way. If I average 60 mph and go a few hundred miles will I be getting 41 mpg?
I’m seriously considering buying a 2011 Fusion Hybrid so I’d really like to hear from an owner of a 2010. Also is the braking system really enough to keep the battery charged. I realize that this car hasn’t been out all that long but, I’d really appreciate the early input.
Any actual owners out there?

A: It works just like every other hybrid currently out there. Yes the brakes will charge the battery with help from the alternator.

It can go up to 47mph on the electric motor but generally it would be using the engine at those speeds because you would want to accelerate fast enough to not get killed.

The rating is also done just like every other car on the road and its the EPA rating it not Ford. The car is run on a city loop (in a lab) and given a rating which in this case is 41 mpg. Sometimes the car runs on the engine, sometimes the motor, sometimes both. Then they repeat it with a highway loop (in a lab) and it gets a 36 mpg rating. On this one the car is run only with the engine because the speeds are much higher. Also notice that hybrids get similar mileage to nonhybrids on the highway because the hybrid part isn’t in use.

Q: Should I buy the Ford Fusion?
I really love the car but everybody keeps saying that Fords dont last long like Foreign cars. Somebody help please. It’s either that or the 2011 Camry. BUT I LIKE THE FUSION! HELPPPPPP!

A: Go with the Camry. It has been considered the best car on the road since the 90’s.

Ford has not made quality cars since the 70’s-80’s.

Looking for more information about the 2011 Honda Fit? Try the amazing Honda Fit Wikinut Page.

Q: When will the 2011 Honda Fit be available ?

A: They should start to arrive at dealers in the end of this month.

Q: Honda Fit… Good in snow…or not?
First off, I am thinking of buying a 2010 or 2011 Honda Fit. I live in Iowa where we get 90 inches of snow every winter. I would just like to hear from some Honda Fit owners and like to know their experiences with driving in snow. I live at the bottom of the hill (poor me). I currently drive a 1994 Honda Accord and can sometimes have problems driving over the “end of the driveway” snow plow drift. I usually PLOW though it, but if I drive a FIT, I don’t want to break the grill since the clearance is so low on the front. Does anyone have any 1st hand experience with driving a Honda Fit in the snow? Is the grill sturdy? Should I get something with more ground clearance like an Element?

A: I drive a Fit and live in Buffalo, (90″ is a very mild winter) and never have had a problem but I wouldn’t try driving over snow drifts. It sits very low and the small tires are not the best. I don’t think you would break the grill so much as get yourself stuck. That being said, I love my Fit and would recommend it, just shovel or plow the driveway before you try to gun it.

Q: What happens if a Honda dealership doesn’t sell their 2010 cars by 2011?
I want a 2010 Honda Fit sport but it’s a little too expensive for me. I was wondering if the car will depreciate in price as soon as January 2011 comes around?? or how does that work?? Does it stay the same price until they sell it?

A: They might come down a little but not thousands of dollars.

The sticker price never changes. But, if they have had a car for a long time and want it gone, they might accept less. No dealer is ever going to lose thousands of dollars because the car is a few months old.

Its still brand new and still has the same warranty.

Q: Will a honda civic si sedan 2006-2011 (8th gen) trunk fit a civic lx sedan 2009?
the title says it all

A: You answered ur own question. They r both gen 8 civics. The only thing different is whats under the hood. So in short…..YES.

Q: Which car is better Honda Fit or Toyota Matrix?
I’m looking to hopefully getting a new car in 2011 and these are the top 2 for me personally. I haven’t test drove either one of them yet, but looks wise and for my practical purposes they seem to be the best fit on paper. I just want to know from peoples own opinion which do you think is best.

1. The car would be mostly a commuter car.
2. Driving mostly in the city. Not taking the highways much, but would like it to be able to have good pick-up when going faster.
3. I’m a first time driver so one that has good safety ratings, although I don’t think I’ll be smashing into anything lol.

Thanks

Thanks!

A: Honda Fit

Q: Honda Civic LX, Fit Sport, or Insight?
Test drove the first two, and liked the Fit a little more, but I keep hearing the Civic is a better car.

And for the Insight, is the extra money worth it for this hybrid model? I hear these aren’t as popular and can’t find anything really bad about them.

Lastly, should I go with a 2010 model or wait for the 2011 to come out?

A: I personally like the Insight. It isnt very popular so you wont just blend in like a Civic or Fit. Between The Civic and Fit,I would take a Civic. It’s basically the same price and roomier. However I would wait for the model change in 2011.

Q: I am going to buy a new car, but have some credit card debt…help?
So within the next three months or so I am going to be buying a new 2011 Honda Fit Sport. I have already researched the car and decided it is a good match for me, but I have some outstanding credit card debt that I am slowly paying off. It’s about $1500 worth, though I hope to have that number down to about $1000 by the time I buy the car. I have a steady job and I will hopefully have a $5000 cash downpayment. Will this credit card debt cause problems when I go to get the car? How about if I have someone co-sign with me?

A: Having a little debt is what you need to build credit. People don’t understand that simple concept. As long as you pay the card on time w/o delay, that will build your credit rating. Apply a little more to the card & get the balance down to $500. What you need to show is a low income to debt ratio at the time of loan application. Also, be sure to apply for a loan with your bank & arrange for auto payments to be with drawn monthly. Banks can & most of the time are better than what a dealer can scrounge up. They often times add a couple of extra percentage points to their lenders to boost their profits. Dealers get a small kick back when they get you financed through one of there preferred lenders. It’s how they make a profit on the back end. Little cars like that don’t have a lot of markup. Good luck!

Q: Will this engine fit my bike?
Hi, i have a Derbi GPR 125, and was wondering if i could fit a Honda CBR250R engine in there without much hassle?

Here is a link to both the bikes.

http://www.derbi.com/int/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=161&Itemid=321

http://hondacanada.ca/MCPE/Motorcycle/Models/ModelOverview?L=E&Type=Sport&Year=2011&Model=CBR250R11

Both are 4 stroke, singles, liquid cooled, six speed, close in displacement…
I’m guessing the important thing would be if the engine mounts match up? So i guess that’s what i’m asking, and if it would work in general?

Thanks.

A: The Honda is a brand-new model for 2011. Where are you going to get such a motor without having to buy the entire bike?

The Honda is fuel-injected. You would have to incorporate all of the electronic engine controls into the wiring of the Derbi in order to get it running.

There is no reason to assume that any of the mounts would line up. The same is true of the drive-line (counter-shaft sprocket/chain/rear sprocket).

Q: Which car of the list would be my best option?
All are 2010 or 2011, I live in Mexico and these are the cars I am somewhat interested in
Ford Fiesta
Honda Fit
Volkswagen Crossfox
Toyota Matrix
Mazda3
Chevrolet Spark

A: Toyota’s are untouchable. Maybe you’v read about Toyota’s Great Recall Debacle: about 12,000,000 recalled globally…so far. And I’ve owned two from the pre-Debacle days and they were a good value.

VW is doubtful. Google Passat Audi sludge. And maint costs are off the scale.

Honda has by far the best reliability on the list.

And never buy new unless you want to pay about 15% of the car’s value to new car depreciation in the first year alone.

Dont buy anything w/o checking it in Consumer Reports.

Q: Fix my old car or buy a brand new car?
I am in my final year of college and I have a 97 plymouth breeze that i bought for $1200 and it has 135,000 miles on it. Lately it has been sputtering and it actually died out today in the middle of the road when I had just got it fixed(catalytic converter, new oil valve, and spark plugs) like 3 wks ago for $500, then other repair cost added up to a $1000. I am getting sick of fixing this car and something always needs to be fixed, So do you think its cheaper to to invest in a new car I am going to purchase a new on in May 2011 ,but I don’t know if its worth the wait with all of these repairs taking place??? I have been looking at the Honda Fit for $13,000?

A: Usually my best advice is to see which is going to cost you less in the long run. if many things are accumalating then you might as well just buy the new car that will have a warrenty to fix any problems for the first so many years. Good luck!

Q: Manual Transmission vs. Automatic Transmission (Canada)?
Im gonna get my drivers license sometime in 2011 (age of 16, allowed to get Ontario drivers license )… And I was wondering what would be better, (since I live in Southern Ontario… near the blue water bridge) A manual Transmission or Automatic Transmission…
I tried to research this on the internet, but they’re not so good answers, so I would like opinions from drivers.
Oh and what are the pros and cons of Manual and automatic transmission..?

P.S; I’m also looking/researching on Hatchback Cars (Honda Fit, Chevolet Aveo, Ford Fiesta, etc)

thanks.

A: I’ve been driving stick for over 5 years now and I can share my experience with you.

Pros -
1) Manual cars are cheaper to purchase then automatic, I’ve used the money I saved to buy a package
2) Repairing is cheaper on manual cars
3) They tend to save more gas then their automatic versions if driven properly
4) They offer more safety on bad road conditions such as snow or wet roads because you use the transmission to slow down
5) You can chose performance over fuel economy in a stick shift by when you choose shift

Cons -
1) The ride is jerky, especially if your a passenger it can feel terrible like hitting a wall during shifts, not as bad if your the driver. this is because you are constantly letting go off the gas. You can try this on older automatic car. Accelerate the car then let go of the gas, you will feel the jerking. It’s even worse when you take it to higher RPM and shift gears. Also 1st gear in a manual is very jerky if you do not shift and let go of the gas, same can be said with 2nd gear on some cars.
2) You have to be very cautious, you dont have any bad habits or improper use of a stick shift or your going to be in and out of the repair shop. For example dont ride the clutch which is holding it in too long or slip the clutch which is letting go too fast, this can kill your clutch prematurely. Dont change gears too early or you will lug the engine causing it to use a lot more gas and is bad on the engine.
3) If your buying a used car you have no way of telling how bad or good the person who owned the car was a stick shift driver.
4) If your driving to save fuel at around 1,500-1,800 you may not have power when you put your foot down or time to change gears if you need to beat an orange light or overpass someone before a lane ends. Can be dangerous and annoying.
5) the fun of a stick shift begins past 3,000 RPM, for city driving you rarely go past that.
6) Some people say it’s too much work driving a stick shift in traffic, but I never noticed that. When traffic is only moving a meter every 30 seconds its not like you have anything else more important to do so you can take your time. I’ve often found this to be an excuse automatic drivers use.

It’s really a personal choice, I would try it before you consider it. Once you’ve been driving a stick shift for a year you start to forget that you are actually driving a stick shift at times because everything comes so naturally and you don’t take a second to think about it.

Occasionally I do have those days where I am not in the mood to drive a stick shift and I regret purchasing a stick shift, but there are also days I have fun with it and waste a bit of fuel.

It is not for everyone is what I am going to say. Try it before you buy it, a lot of teenagers have this idea that you are going to be cool if you drive a stick shift and that it is more fun then an automatic but that is not the case 99% of the time. None of my friends who are in their 20s and no longer are teenagers own a stick shift but it was the talk in high school. I got a stick shift because I tried it in during my teen years and that’s why I got one at the time, most people who get past the teen years without ever learning to drive stick never end up getting it.

Q: Moving from California to Maine – I need your input..?
Okay so I am moving from southern california to maine..
I plan on moving in the fall, I would be transporting my dog in the fall or during the spring of the following year.
My car lease ends in 2011 on Easter which to be honest I don’t know what that means if I just return and pay during 2011 and if I can even return it to a dealer in Maine or anything so this is a big part of my yahoo question.

Here are my options that I have considered:
1) Roadtrip to Maine, rent a uhaul to get my furniture and tow my car (08 Honda Civic).
Cost = $2,700.00 for uHaul alone. + Gas, Food, Hotel

2) Fly to Maine, bring a couple boxes and get rid of my car magically before I leave.
Cost = $500.00 (Taxi/Ticket/Hotel etc)
+ Dog transport

3) Fly to Maine, bring boxes and take my car with me by using a car transport service.
Cost = $2,000.00

4) Drive my Car to Maine, sell my furniture and take what I can fit in my small car.
Cost = $XXX.00 (Gas, Food, Hotel)

Number 4 seems the most ideal, the problems I have are that I am bipolar, have telephobia, get panic attacks when driving, get leg cramps while driving, I have ADD so I become incredibly distracted, I have a real history of bad luck so something is going to go wrong no matter which route I take. Plus the car lease thing, I don’t actually like my car so ideally I wanted to just get rid of the d@mned thing since I got it when I was 18 as a first buyers program from pressure from my stupid sister.

If you are asking yourself why anyone would want to move from California to Maine, not everyone likes California plus there is someone in Maine.. I work online/at home so I could be in the middle of the ocean and still have a source of income.

Are there other options, please let me know.
More notes, I know I need to call Honda to find out what their input is. From the research I’ve done the dealership is very expensive and they make it almost impossible to terminate a lease early. Plus I kind of washed my phone in the washing machine. So right now my internet is connecting me to everyone.

My life is pathetic, I know this.
My mentioning of any medical problems is just petty information to help develop some sort of plan. I am just really nervous about this whole thing so I am just trying to see if anyone around the country has any input on the whole thing.

I don’t have any clinical diagnosis, I’ve never had it checked out, don’t actually have health insurance so who knows if any of what I say is true.

A: Remember, that Maine has VERY LONG winters, which might not be a good thing with your medical history. Also, has this “someone” been around you enough to understand what your medical implications mean.

Q: Is Mercedes-Benz really that bad?
I am thinking of getting a Mercedes-Benz. I don’t like BMW. I think BMW is too common. There are lots of people who buy BMWs and they think they are all that because they drive a 2000 BMW 3-series, which in my opinion looks exactly like a Honda Civic except for the front grill.

Anyways, I am thinking of getting a 2009-2011 Mercedes-Benz CL550 4MATIC. I really like this car. They are stylish, they are rare, not so many of them are made and it seems to fit me well. It’s a coupe version of legendary S-class basically. It’s serious enough that I can drive it to a serious meeting and it’s sporty enough that I can get some pleasure off it when I’m not working.

Problem is I hear Mercedes-Benz is horrible at reliability. I hear people who buy Mercedes-Benzs are douche bags. Well what am I supposed to drive? BMW is too common, it has no character. Lexus is not sporty and the design looks like a Toyota. I don’t know what car to get anymore. I am a busy guy so I need something reliable.
Micheal: Yeah I heard about S550 beating Prius in the environmental department too, however I’m pretty sure S550 and CL550 have the same engines because CL550 is based on S550.
Lord Helmet: Unfortunately I need the 4MATIC because I have to drive on bad weather sometimes. Money is not a issue but all wheel drive would be better in my situation. Also yes BMW deserves it’s popularity but I just don’t like their drivers so I don’t want to be one of them. A lot of people around me that drive a BMW think they are all that just because they drive a , even if its a old one. They also drive very badly.

A: Mercedes are great cars, and the CL is a good choice if you want something less common on the road. If you really want to go unique, get an AMG instead of a 4Matic.

But you shouldn’t base your car choice on how many people have one, or the fact that Honda always bases their Civic design on the 3-series. True, Toyota Camrys suck, and a million people drive ‘em, but BMWs actually deserve their popularity. If you take a 335i or an M3 for a spin, you’ll see that BMWs actually have a very distinct character.

As far as reliability, just get something that’s still within warranty, or get the extended warranty, and you should be fine. The newer Mercedes are more reliable than the early-mid 2000s models.

Q: How tall should i be to ride a crf250r ? What is a good way to do jumps?
So im about 5,4 or 5,3 i think 5,4 and i hear you should be about 5,8 or higher to be able to touch the ground today i looked at 3 types of bikes KW250 crf250r and yz250f. I like Honda the best but hey its mostly pick a color. Im only 15 so im guessing i still got some inches to grow my brother is 20 and hes about 5,8 or 5,9 so im guessing im going to be near his height. But how tall do i have to be and how tall should i be to ride this? Im looking to race in the 2011 eastern Ontario racing because i have to wait at least a year before i can even fit on the 250 let alone race with it. I currently have a 150f.

A: I’m 5′11 and I feel perfect height to ride the 250. I would say the proper height to ride it would be 5′8 or 5′9, but it mostly depends on your skill, knowledge of riding and if you can lift the bike. The ‘09 CRF are really light.

Looking for more information about the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta? Try the amazing Volkswagen Jetta Hub Page.

Q: Does anyone know where the new 2011 Volkswagen Jetta TDI ill be built?
Also the 2011 Golf TDI. I’m just curious if reliability matters on where they are manufacturer.

A: Production will most likely be Mexico, with the drive train from Germany. VW de Mexico, has improved greatly since the mid 90’s

Q: What is special (known) about Volkswagen** 2011 Jetta?
So Honda and Toyota are know for reliability, Volvo is for safety. What is VW know for? I’m 17 and I’m thinking about buying a 2011 Jetta vs. the Toyota Camry and the Honda Civic.

A: Volkswagen are known for their German “feel” and superior level of interior fit and finish. When you drive one, they just feel so solid and stable that it’s just enjoyable to drive them. Even just cruising along they just feel good. The design and aesthetics and comfort tend to be better than Japanese cars, but you do pay a price for it. the VW’s need more maintenance and are not as reliable as Honda. A Toyota is an appliance. Like a Dishwasher. It’s a machine that does a job and otherwise keeps itself out of your way. THey run forever and never break down, but no one looks forward to driving them anywhere. They are a means to an end. It’s not for people who really like cars. A Honda is similar but has more driver involvement. It’s more of a drivers car. It’s a precision tool, but it lacks the ability to really produce that emotional response that VW’s give you. A Honda impresses you with it’s engineering, technical achievement, precision and reliability. A VW makes you fall in love. Sure it’s not perfect and it might give you some trouble now and again, but if you are a car person, really, it’s worth it. If you aren’t a car person, don’t get a VW. You will hate it because it will always need attention. Personally I like cars, I like doing my own maintenance, I like working on cars so a VW is perfect for me.

Q: What is the song in the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta commercial?
The one where the people are shown creating the design of the car.

Video Link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=–JsK88xUtk

A: Richard Ashcroft – the United Nations Of Sound – Are You Ready

Q: Reviews on the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta?
How does the 2011 jetta drive in the snow?? How does it drive period? I know they downgraded the interior…is it cheap looking? is it durable?

A: I just got the 2011 VW Jetta TDI Sportswagen and it is a great car. I got the leather interior which looks really sweet. I’m also a big fan of the TDI “clean diesel” technology. I am averaging 41 mpg on the highway! The TDI is a little heavier than the non-TDI but I found that it is a little slippery driving in the snow. Of course this may have been since we had that huge blizzard two weeks ago in NJ, but otherwise it is a fantastic car. My only complaint is the rear window wiper/washer fluid package, which doesn’t work for sh^t. Otherwise, a great car.

Q: 2011 volkswagen jetta vs 2011 suzuki kizashi?? please help!?
so im looking to get my first car in a few months, and ive narrowed it down to about four, and I want to get it to three. as of now, I have the 2011 mazda 3, 2011 subaru legacy, 2011 suzuki kizashi, and the 2011 volkswagen jetta. so, which do you think is the best for a first car, thats fun to drive, reliable, and etc etc? kizashi, or jetta? btw, please please PLEASE dont suggest getting used cars. my parents dont think their safe… so its not really an option.. kizashi vs. jetta. experiences, links, etc are all appreciated. thanks!!

A: The 3 and the Legacy are the most reliable on your list by a long shot.
The Kizashi has gotten some good initial reviews, but Suzuki doesn’t have a reputation of making reliable vehicles and I would question the long-term reliability.
Jettas are crap, no matter what the year, and the new 2011’s are actually worse than the prior generation in overall quality and options.

My wife owns a 2010 Mazda 3 i-touring. We have had it for a year and we love it. It’s inspiring to drive, zippy, easy to maneuver, looks great, reliable, and it’s easy to do your own maintenance.

Q: 2011 volkswagen jetta?
im in the market for a new car, probably going to buy it in a few months. and im really liking the 2011 volkswagen jetta. i test drove it and it felt pretty good, i like the look of the interior and exterior; and all around, i have no problem with the car that i see. do you guys think its a good choice? any input or experiences? negatives or positives? experiences, links, and etc are all welcome and appreciated. thanks so much!!
oh, and ill be getting a higher trim. probably SE with convenience and sunroof package. so the horsepower wouldnt be the 115 base trim…

A: Mandolar has given you some good info. I agree with him, VW’s have been around for a long time and a very well made German automobile

Q: Black or White 2011 Volkswagen Jetta?
Which color is more elegant for a 2011 VW Jetta? Black or White?

A: I purchased the white Jetta SE with conveince package and sunroof…..I love it…I actually picked white over black for the opposite reason the person who purchased the black one….I like the contrast of the black grill on a white car….if VW stuck with the chrome finish..I would of prob gotten the black jetta.

Q: 2011 subaru legacy, 2011 volkswagen jetta or 2011 mazda 3? help me!?
i know a lot about subarus, and a lot about mazdas and so far i think that the legacy and mazda 3 would make great first cars. but ive been hearing about the jetta lately? what do you guys think? please share experiences, facts, or links. if you want to suggest i get a used car and save money, i dont have the choice, my parents think they will break down on me. so please stick with what ive got! thanks!

A: Hey, if they are paying for the new car, go for it. They are 100% wrong but it’st money, not mine.

I would rate them in this order

Mazda3
Subaru Legacy
Jetta

All of these cars are nice cars and all of them will make an excellent choice. The Mazda is just plain right. They got it all right with this car. It looks great, has excellent performance and ..well, it’s just all right.

The Subaru is probably the most expensive of the three. Subaru makes a good car and the Legacy would be a great car to own.

The all new Jetta is also a very good car and it is probaly the least expensive of the three. The problem is that the Jetta can go ewither way as far as reliability goes. I don’t understand it but some VW owners hate their cars and others just love their car. My 2004 Jetta 1.8T is the most fun small car I’ve ever driven. I LOVE that car. My daughters Passat is a piece of crap. It’s in the shop way too much, thank the lord it’s all under warranty.

Q: The new 2011 Volkswagen Jetta commercial in Canada Vw.ca, Where the wooden mold is shaven, anyone know the song?
The car is advertised for like $15,xxx and the car is at first a wooden mold then its shaven away or fallen off and then the actual paint & metal is shown.

It’s sort of a techno mix or something with synthesizers sort of.

And at the bottom is says vw.ca

I can’t find the video on you tube or vw.ca
This ad has been out in the Month of October 2010
When i say its being carved out of wood or molded i dont mean the dream team commercial where the techs in the white lab coats are working on it. The car is driving at night.
Thanks a Million ( Lepetit Pierre alan )

That’s Exactly The Commercial I was Looking For.

Now I just Need to Figure Out the Song.

A: I already watched this ad on RDI Radio-Canada (in French) but I can’t find this ad on YouTube. vw.ca doesn’t help at all. I continue to search and I tell you if I find the ad.

EDIT : I found the video on YouTube, just need to search more than the first page : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1_v6a5DWPM

Q: Will Volkswagen of America release a TDI model for the 2011 Jetta?
I have been to a VW dealer not too long ago and I could’ve sworn I saw a 2011 Jetta with a TDI badge in the back of it. However, when I visit vw.com, they don’t give a TDI option for the 2011 Jetta.

Does anyone know?

A: Yes the 2011 range has,.

Q: volkswagen jetta…the new (2011) model?
My 2008 Jetta lease is about to be up. I was wondering if anyone has driven the new jetta and what they think of it compared to the previous versions? Thanks.

A: don’t listen to hank, i’d never get a focus over a vw. it’s literally the same exact car with a different body style. it feels almost EXACTLY the same to drive. just a little bit bigger, you can’t even tell though.

Q: How much is a 2011 volkswagen key?
If i wanted to buy another 2011 key (car has a start button, key just needs to be in the car) how much is it for my jetta?

A: $50-$100

Q: What is a multifunction trip computer and indicator?
I am considering buying a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta and a multifunction trip computer and indicator is listed as one of the options yet I am not sure of what it is, could someone please tell me? Thanks!

A: It is a display that will show you fuel economy, trip odometers, possibly compass, trip timer and distance to empty. Those are the basics, depending on model they might have even more features.

Q: Is it a good idea to get an extended warranty on a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta TDI?
Hello,

I just bought a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta TDI and was wondering if it is a good idea to get an extended warranty on this car? I had my heart set on the 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid but it wasn’t available yet and my siste already has a Jetta TDI (2009) and hasn’t had any problems yet except it not starting a couple times because it was cold outside. I’ve read some very HORRIFIC stories about Volkswagen and am really thinking that I may have not made the right decision about buying this particular car brand so now I’m stuck with the car and am not sure what to do. I LOVE the car. It performs SO well unlike anything I have ever road in or driven but feel that this car may have a great deal of problems after the warranty expires. The warranty is for 3/36,000 basic limited warranty (bumper to bumper) and 5/60,000 powertrain warranty so I’m not sure what to do. The dealer suggested the extended warranty for $1200 when I purchased the car at 100 miles. Is this a good price on an extend warranty? Also, what is your experience with Volkswagen/ friends experience/ family experience and is it worth the extended warranty? I’ve always taken care of my car and haven’t had many problems so I don’t know what to do. Thank you

A: Congratulations on your new purchase!

While it is true that you have comprehensive coverage with your 3 year or 36k mile basic limited warranty (not bumper to bumper) and a 5 year or 60k mile powertrain warranty. Depending on your driving habits, you may need extended coverage in case of mechanical breakdown.

First thing is to determine how quickly your complementary VW factory warranties will expire.

Are you a more than a 12k mile per year driver? If so you will have less than 3 years of comprehensive coverage and even less of the basic powertrain coverage.

This first question will also allow you to estimate your needs for extended coverage.

How much do I need?

The top of the line coverage that is backed by Volkswagen (administrated by Fidelity, an administrator for Toyota and Hyundai as well) is called the Volkswagen Drive Easy Platinum plan.

Is this what your VW dealer offered you?

These plans would be able to provide you “comprehensive” coverage, similar to your original factory warranty. The plans can add up to 7 years or 100k miles to your vehicle coverage from the date you purchase the plan as a new (or almost new) vehicle.

Keep in mind as you accumulate time and mileage on your Volkwagen Jetta TDI, the pricing of any extended service plan, to include the factory backed Drive Easy Platinum, will go up simply based on the increased mileage and time. Also keep in mind as you wait your vehicle will not be eligible for all the available plans offered when new. For instance, if you wait until your VW Jetta 3 year / 36k mile factory warranty expires, you will no longer be eligible to purchase a factory backed extension. However, you would be able to explore aftermarket alternatives which may offer less coverage at an increased cost.

Is it a good idea to get an extended warranty?
This is up to you. It is not if, it is a matter of when your vehicle will breakdown. Even the most maintained vehicles breakdown eventually. This answer is completely up to you, your driving habits, and your preference to be assured that repair bills will be the Volkswagen warranty administrators problem and not yours.

What is a good price on a Volkswagen Extended Warranty?
To me this is all relative. You should not completely base your vehicle protection plan decision on price. You must look into the actual coverage, reputation of the warranty administrator to pay claims, and the ability for your ASE certified repair shop to fix the problems under the plan you choose.

Whenever researching an Volkswagen Extended Warranty, keep these helpful tips on purchasing an auto warranty in mind:

- Always ask for the actual (or sample) copy of the service agreement that you will be purchasing. This allows for you to identify items that may or may not be covered under the product.

- Always call your local ASE certified repair shop and Volkswagen dealership. Ask them if they accept or have had dealt with the Volkswagen Extended Warranty (a.k.a. extended service contract) you are considering. This will give you a good read on whether the company you are considering actually pays their claims.

- Have questions about what is covered and what is not? Call the claims number on the service agreement you requested earlier. This will allow you to see how quick and how knowledgeable the companies claim department is with its customers. Not just how quick their sales department is! If they have it, also ask for a complete list of components that are covered by the plan.

- Always check A.M. Best rating of the administrator of the product. This should be an A or better, if at all possible.

- Always check with the BBB for the rating on the seller and administrator of the product. Yes, these are often times different.

- Never purchase an Volkswagen extended warranty from a company that will not provide you with contact information (eg. address, phone number, etc).

Q: Volkswagen Jetta or Chevy Colbalt?
I am in my first year of college (only getting my associates so I’ll be done in the spring of 2011) and I need to buy a new car because my little sister is getting her license and gets my car. I am starting to look at cars and we are currently looking at a 2000 Jetta, but I also like Chevy Colbalts. We don’t know too much about Colbalts so we aren’t too sure about them. Are Chevy Colbalts good cars? Or should I just keep looking at Jetta’s? Or is there a better car that would be under $6000 used?
Thanks!

A: I would look somewhere else. Like a 2001-2002 Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla.

Buying a 2000 Jetta is kindof like shooting yourself in the foot. VW is not high on the reliability ratings, overall, and a Jetta made before 2007 is not a wise decision.

The Cobalts have reliability issues, as well – Chevy is actually discontinuing them and replacing them with the Cruze for 2011.

Looking for more information about the 2011 Ford Escape? Try the amazing Ford Escape Hub Page.

Q: Does the 2011 Ford Escape XLT 4×4 have a “4WD” or “4×4″ badge on the exterior?
I recently bought a 2011 Ford escape XLT with 4WD (sticker and salesman said 4wd) but there is no 4WD or 4×4 badge on the tailgate like most other vehicles… Whats up!?

A: It might not have one. My parents bought a 2010 Toyota Highlander 4WD/AWD V6. it doesn’t have a V6 badge on it, yet I’ve seen other Highlanders of the same vintage around that do. Doesn’t seem to have a rhyme or reason to it. Don’t worry about it, the “4WD” system in the Escape is much closer to an AWD system than it is a traditional 4WD system anyway.

Q: How many Gallons do the new 2011 ford escapes hold?
I just got a brand new Ford 2011 XLT Escape. Anyone know exactly how many gallons of gasoline this car holds? Thanks(:

A: 16.5 gallons. Don’t use this for checking fuel mileage as it will be way off. It is not the correct way, just in case you are thinking that. Your owners manual tells this kind of thing. It should be in your glove box.

Q: 2011 Ford Edge or Escape for 16 year old girl?
My grandma left me a lot of money before she passed and I am aloud to spend part of it on a car after I get my license in June. I’ve been looking at the 2011 Ford Escape it’s about $21,000 and the Ford Edge is $27,000 I think I like the Escape more I feel like the Edge is more of a family car then one for a teenager plus it’s $6,000 more expensive. What suv do you think I should get?

A: the Escape is a good choice it is safe and roomy, plus its cheaper
take a look at the chevy equinox also to compare..always compare before you buy

don’t forget the prices you list are starting/base prices…expect to pay more or buy used

Q: 2011 KIA Sportage VS 2011 FORD Escape?
I’m looking into buying a car in the category of off-road comfortable SUV. I really like the the looks of the new Sportage but i also like the available technology options in the ford like sync. but what i really need is good fuel economy and value along with longevity i need a comfortable off road capable small SUV? so which is the best?

A: You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here – carquotes.fateback.com

Q: Do you think the new 2011 ford explorer is a good first car?
It must be reliable, or should I get something smaller like the escape? but I like the explorer more. Im planning to drive my friends and stuff.

A: According to your other questions, you’re 12 years old. No sense in worrying about what kind of first car you’re going to get at this point.

Q: The advantages and disadvantages of buying new instead or used?
Or you can answer with the advantages and disadvantages of buying used, I am debating between getting a 2011 ford escape limited priced at 32,000 or a 2009 ford escape limited priced at 24,000. Any opinions?

A: I would make an offer on the 2009 for $22k out the door price(inc tax, lic&reg). There isn’t $10k difference between the two.

Q: Could someone tell me whether or not this is a good one?
My husband and I are looking to buy a new vehicle within the next few months and I was wondering, from a parents point of view if the suv I was looking into would be large enough. I have 2002 Toyota Camry now, which isn’t running as well as it used to and is looking a bit rough. I am looking at buying a 2011 Ford Escape (four door, five seater). We have two, three year olds and an eight month old. Do you think this would be a good vehicle choice? Thank you.

A: Not a bad choice, but you have to think about the future, especially if you plan on keeping the vehicle for a while. The truck is nice, but think about when your children are older. Road trips will be “He’s touching me” and “She’s on my side”. lol. Wouldn’t want to go through that if not neccessary. Something like a Ford Flex may be more spacious without going into a minivan.

Q: Does the car salesman determine the deal you get or bank?
This woman told me that she went to ford motors and came out with a 2011 ford escape even though her credit is bad and she couldnt get the bank to loan her money. She says Ford finances in house instead of through banks. How did that happen? Is it because the dealer has ultimate control on whether he wants to let you ride in a new car? and does he not get in trouble??

A: Most manufacturers have in-house financing that doesn’t come from traditional financers (directly).

How can someone walk out with a car and bad credit? Big down payment, short term financing, high apr. Dealer has no control, it’s the financer which is FORD. All manufacturers have some sort of in house financing.

Q: Is this ford escape worth how much they are asking?
http://apps.dealerconnection.com/dealers/rameyformwv/used-inventory?_flowExecutionKey=_c4F489EA4-41ED-59EC-92B8-C9D6320A6C88_k7F589070-2011-0986-356D-9C7235091D41&_eventId_vehicledetails=true&vin=1FMCU9EG9AKA64275&dealerPACode=09051&certifiedPreownedImg=true&mediaid=videoMediaID#historyreport

I love this car and I can put about 2500 down on it, however I wanted to keep my payments in the low 300’s and this car for fianancing for 5 years would be well over 400 for my interest rate. Any suggestions? Should I try to talk the salesman down (I haven’t talked to any salesman about it yet), should I save up for a bigger down payment, or should I try to keep looking? Thanks!

A: ummm, I’m pretty sure that there must be a misprint there on the price that they are advertising.
You should definitely get a better price.
The asking price ($28,995) on the link that you provided is actually MORE than the vehicles MSRP ($28,745) was when it was brand new, untitled, no miles, full manufacturers warranty, and rebates/incentives/discounts were available.

This is the original window sticker:

http://www.inventory.fordvehicles.com/services/inventory/WindowSticker.pdf?vin=1FMCU9EG9AKA64275&refid=DC&hash=a58b659991d87025229c5faf11c2a3&pacode=01648&modelid=173

Now it is a year old with 20 thousand miles on it and there are no rebates available on a pre-owned vehicle. Granted they have placed a Ford Certified Pre-owned Warranty on it now… but they STILL shouldn’t ask MORE than the vehicle was when it was new?!?!?!?!

Really,…. I would call and ask them if they misprinted the price.

You can also plug the vehicle and options into Kelly Blue Book site and get a better feel as to what other vehicles like that are selling for.

http://www.kbb.com/

By the way, an Ebony Limited Edition Escape 4X4 with Camel Leather interior IS a beautiful vehicle.. and very nicely equipped… I’d by it in a heartbeat if the price were right!

EDIT for additional info:
I ran it through KBB for you.
As a Ford CPO unit, in my area, the price that KBB recommends in Excellent condition is $26,930.
I still think ^that’s a bit high, but you can use the information that I gave to help you negotiate for a much better price than that dealer is asking.

I hope this helps.

Q: Is this a good first car for 16 year old girl?
My grandma left me a lot of money before she passed and I am aloud to spend part of it on a car after I get my license. I’ve been looking at the 2011 Ford Escape it’s about $21,000 and the hybrid is $30,000. I love it I think it’s stylish and safe (I live in Michigan so the 4×4 is going to help in the snow) What do you think about the Escape? This is a big choice I have to make, even though it’s not my money that I earned working it still hurts my wallet to spend such a huge amount. So I need someone else’s opinion. Also, do you think the hybrid is worth the extra $9,000?

A: It should be 4-door, 4-cyls, not sporty. I would prefer Honda or Toyota… First time drivers usually have much more expensive car insurance, and it depends from car. You should compare insurance rates while choosing the car – for example here – carquotes.fateback.com

Q: What subs and amp should I get?
I am looking to put subs and a amp in my 2011 Ford Escape Limited. I really like the sound of the Alpine Type R’s. I am looking to put two 12″ type R’s in a sealed box. I prefer sealed boxes because I like a tighter sound. I want to stick with only one amp that will support both subs. My question is, which type R’s should I get, the 2 ohm or the 4ohm? And I also would like to know what would be the best amp to get as well that would be perfect for the subs? If I am not mistaken, I believe I would want to go with 2 ohm because I am putting in more than one sub. Please correct me if I am wrong. Just looking for that “perfect” match I guess. I would like to stick to the Alpine brand but if anyone favors other brands let me know, I am always open to options. I am very limited on my knowledge when it come to car equipment, so be easy on me. I am still learning. Thanks!

A: Check out at amazon you can find more options here :

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=marshall+amp+&x=0&y=0&tag=klnprk-20

Also check out at Ebay

http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5574865779&toolid=10001&campid=5336440665&customid=klnprk&mpre=http%3a%2f%2fshop.ebay.com%2fi.html%3f_nkw%3dheadphone%26_sacat%3d0%26_odkw%3dheadphone%26_osacat%3d0%26_trksid%3dp3286.c0.m270.l1313

Q: Exceed towing capacity?
I recently bought a 2011 Ford Escape, which has a rated towing capacity of 3,500 lbs.

I’ve been looking at buying a camper/trailer with a dry weight of 3,400 lbs, which when loaded with gear and water will probably weight about 4,500 lbs.

The salesman at the RV dealership told me that I should be able to tow that weight with no problems, if I get a transmission cooler and a weight-distributing hitch. He said that the manufacturers rating is an engineering calculation based upon the maximum weight towable by the vehicle for its entire life, and that if I was towing a trailer for a few weekends a year or even a few weeks once a year, that I should be easily able to exceed the towing capacity if I drove slowly and safely.

I’m looking at making a trip down the Oregon Coast, and want some feedback from experienced RVers if what I’m being told is correct and safe.

So I’m basically looking at exceeding my maximum rated towing capacity by about 30% for a period of about 2-3 weeks.

Safe, or asking for trouble?
P.S. If you’re just going to Google “exceed towing capacity” and post a link for me, please don’t post it. I’m looking for individual feedback from experienced RVers, not links from Google searches (already done that, thanks).

A: Having towed trailers of different sizes (everything from a single axle UHaul to a tractor/trailer combo) from coast to coast and from Florida to Alaska and back I have a few thoughts to throw in to the mix.

First off while towing a 4,500 pound trailer could be done with the right preparations to the towing vehicle there’s another reason for the vehicle manufacture to list a max weight. You never want the weight of the trailer to get too close to the weight of the towing vehicle. If you swerve the mass of the trailer will take over and drag you along. Once that happens you’re SOL. So while you can do things to help the drive-line survive the abuse you still are stuck with a towing vehicle that weighs only so much.

Having said that if you still want to tow the trailer in question regardless of the risks here are a few things to help the truck get you there and back.

1.) Trailer brakes: if the trailer doesn’t have surge brakes make sure you get a proper electric brake controller to put in the Ford. This one item only can mean whether you survive coming down a simple mountain road.

2.) Transmission cooler: mount the biggest one you can and add a temperature gauge. It doesn’t take much heat to destroy transmission fluid. If you see the temp getting too high when going up a hill slow down or pull over and give the transmission a few minutes to cool off some. I tow-bared an old Jeep CJ5A from SD to Alaska with a Dodge Caravan. Everyone told me I was going to kill the transmission due to all the mountain passes I had to drive through and would need a new one by the time I was done. With the use of the temp gauge on the mountain passes I pulled over every time it built up too much heat. The transmission lasted for several more years after the trip before an electronic component failed and I had to replace it.

3.) What does the owner’s manual say about the use of the overdrive while towing? Most say to disengage the overdrive as it puts too much stress on the transmission when towing. This is also a good practice as it keeps your speed down. You don’t need to be going 75 mph, especially if you are already exceeding the vehicle’s recommending towing rating.

4.) Do you have the factory Class II towing package? If so this is most likely be a 1.5 inch receiver mount. They are only rated to 3,500 pounds. What you need to find would be at least a Class III hitch set up for a 2 inch receiver as they can handle more weight. Make sure someone sells a 2 inch mount setup for your model Ford before you make too many plans.

5.) Last item. Do you have the 4 cylinder or V6 engine? Hope it is the V6 as the 4 cylinder is only rated for 1,500 pounds.

The biggest killer when towing a lot of weight is speed. Just because everyone on the highway is doing 10 over the limit doesn’t mean you have to keep up with them. Take your time and keep the speed down. It’s better to take an hour extra to get to your destination instead of driving too fast and ending up not getting there at all.

Q: I’m driving cross country to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. What car should I drive?
I currently have a 2005 dodge Neon with 92,000 miles on it. The car is in decent shape and has gone cross country (CA to NY) several times. I’ll be driving to Alaska next summer and thinking about getting a new car. I heard my Neon could handle it though.

But in the event I get a new car, if I purchased a brand new 2011 Ford Escape, would the drive up to Prudhoe Bay ruin the car? Is the terrain bad, would rocks get kicked up and dent it on horribly paved or unpaved roads?

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
PS: My Neon gets 30mpg highway and the new Escape gets 28mpg, so not a big difference surprisingly.

A: Most the roads will be paved but if I were you I’d take the older car why put the miles on the new car. If you hit a moose you might not be so bummed with the older car verses new car.

Q: What is the best SUV-like hybrid?
I am use to a Ford Escape (non hybrid) and am interested in buying a new car. I like the SUV/Crossover vehicles and want to purchase something of the sort. I am interested in a hybrid–though I have never had one–does anyone have any suggestions. Are hybrids worth it? What are the good ones? Are there any predicted 2011 hybrid SUV that are suppose to be good? 2011 Escape?

A: 2010 Escape or the 2010 Toyota Highlander are the best choices for a hybrid right now.
They use the same hybrid synergy technology and will get you the best mileage for an SUV right now.
The Escape will get better mileage because it is smaller and lighter than the Highlander.

Q: For my first car?…?
I really want a white 2009 ford escape… I think they are so cute.
but my parents don’t want to pay for a brand new one, will I be able to get a used one by January 2011?

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.deep-ice.com
